When I think of a commando the only melee weapon I think of them using is a knife. Other then that I would expect them to be well trained in hand to hand combat. I think it was a good decision to make the commando go through at least unarmed combat to get to the profession. Can you picture a commando using a sword, a polearm, or even an axe? I can't.

Yeah a knife is always one of the first things that comes to mind, Rambo anyone? But I like the unarmed skill tree because a commando in a bar fight better win that fight without a weapon.
