Thread: Flame Cone Question
Sorry if I'm missing something stupid, but I have a question on the flamecone.
Here is the situation. . . I send in my trusty rock beetle to tank and draw all the aggro mobs (read levias - :smileyhappy
to it and once they are grouped nicely I hit 'em with flamecone. I've tried this a few times and it seems that sometimes I hit all the mobsattacking my tank, and other times a few are left out.
Was this by design? I can't seem to put a pattern to it, so I'm simply wonderingif the intention was to have 1 or 2 occasionally escape the cone. Are there specs anywhere on the Cone Range, AOE range, ect.? I don't think a fix is needed, but I would like to better prepare - if possible.
I did do abit of testing and itdoes not seem to be based on whether the mobs are aggro-ing something. For my test I toasted asome nicely groupedcity trash (no XP on 3 of the 4 hit but they all got hit by the AOE).
Thoughts?
Since the damage from the cone is treated like any other damage delt, it can be +dodge+, or +counter+ ect ect...
The burn DOT does land when the +dodge+.... But right now, we do not get exp from instand burn deaths, as in the case of a +dodge+ move. However we DO get exp from the initial smack of the special.
Hope that helps some.
Oh and I'm unsure if the DOT lands regardless of a miss when the MOB is in the cone/wedge, hard to tell with lag/server latency ect...
Tortza, Eclips
Cool.. that does help...So to sum itup, if I'm understanding this correctly, to get our largest AOE we should be at 16m-with 16m being the range of the most distant mob in the grouping, and that furthest mob should also be centered (ideally) amid the group.... Right?
As for the DOT on a miss, I believe it does hit so long as they are in the cone. But I believe XP is not awarded in those circumstances until you get a solid hit in. Not 100% sureabout thatthough.
Thanks for the assist!
I HAVE put a multiple dot on about 3 mature snorbal females that were grouped together using flamecone1
I did not recieve xp from 1 of the 3, but did on the initial one i attacked, and i did get one shot off on the other one i recieved XP for. So this is still something that needs fixing.
Odd that it's not working for some of you. Both my level 1 flame specials do DOT and the AOE is working for me (my commando tree is1.0.3.0 so far)... I've used it a ton and only had the problem was with not all "in range" mobs being effected - but that was my misunderstanding of the range.
Oh well, just wanted to let you know it does work for meso your's should also.I've had itwork inpvp too. Also I have defintely missed and had DOT work (no not a dodge and not a counter). I don't think it should work (read bug) but it seems to for me. I can't rpove this of course, but maybe someone else can back this up? ... eheh... That or the Napalm is getting me high! Lol.
- Only targets in range (from you) are affected (imagine single-targetting everyone in your cone).
- Targets in PvE do NOT take damage unless they are already in combat (they need the little 'X' icon). Using the cone attack does not in of itself put targets into combat (i.e. you can hit them with a cone effect, place effects on the mob, do no damage, and have the mob still not aggro on you).
- In PvP you can hit anything you can target without them being in combat. If you have to hit one to get TEF on others, I -believe- the first attack won't necessarily hit the others.
- Even targets that do not take damage because they are not in combat (but are in the cone) are affected by any effects the cone may have. This only applies for PvE; in PvP if you can't hit them, you can't hit them with anything.
DoT attacks never give XP (or credit) for their damage. This includes burning, bleeds and poison. This means if all the damage done to the mob is DoT, no one gets any xp for them and no one can loot them. Oddly, DoT attacks still aggro. So with a flamecone, you might only damage the first target, but DoT the rest, and have them all aggro you when the DoT finally ticks, depending on their aggro/combat state when you first open up with the cone.
