Hi all. I am currently a low level pistoleer with intentions of mastering creature handler. I have thought about being a commando since day one.

Sooo.. Is playing a commando a fun thing to do? And also, how do commandos fair in player vs creature combat?

I've enjoyed playing as commando =P

Commando/TK/CH

I can knockdown and dizzy people in duels all within 1.5 seconds and then flame them for 1800 dmg =P
against monsters I do 6k-8k dmg

I have had lots of fun playing my commando, but most of my fun comes from grouping with my guild mates as they enjoy having someone who can do the big dmg. As a solo class you WILL need to go with something like CH and be prepared to use the other weapons you have access to i.e. Flame then switch to Launcher pistol as the melee dmg modifier hurts when having the hvy weapon equiped.

At the start I had my doubts but now that I have progressed further I have no regrets.

Being a commando is definately fun, but remember that by being one, you will automatically be labeled a 'band-wagoning 1337 dewd'by some.

Commando is a badprimary class, but it makes an exceptional second class. I should know, I'm an Investigater (Bounty Carbine), CH, and Grenadeer (Flamethrower)

Being a commando was fun for a goodwhile. PvE got waaay too easy though. I was able to bring down just about everything solo (not krayt or gorax though) with a decent pet. The burn DOT did all the "work". It was fun in PvP too, but again one-shotting players got old (though it always brought a smile to my face). Overall its a fun class for a while, just not as challenging as, say, going carbine as I am now .

Dont do it...

Since the nerfs kicked in on an already broken class (2.5x melee damage modifier)... and the HAR dosent work very effectively and neither dose grenades, and the launcher pistol blows.. and you also miss ALOT...

If I had it to do all over again I woulda went BH/TKA or BH/CH

SWG loves the Bounty Hunter and keeps his/her class and pistoleers at the top of the game, they suffer the least amount of HAM costs for their specials.. and if they are TKA (once again knockdown and dizzy) or CH you will never get close enough to them to apply a flame shot.... they have awsome attacks and can spam you with knockdown and eyeshot till the cows come home.. even while you are wearing a great composite armor helmet... and not very many of them actually hunt bounties (although I have on occasion seen a few that do)

They DO however rule PvP and mixed with the right combos...( I.E. some medic skills) rule as stated in pvp andin PvE as well

Go Bounty Hunter ... you will save yourself alot of disappointment in this Beta version game.

Commando is not a horrible class. The 2.5x damage multiplier sucks which means that you can't fight anything that engages you at melee because you'll die really fast when using any of the heavy weapons. The alternate commando weapon, Launcher Pistol, does piss poor damage and doesn't even use any commando-specific specials. You have to be a pistoleer to get that (yeah I know, I don't understand it either). But there are some things you can do to counter this horrible negative.

First can try getting a pet, my favorite is Mountain Krevol because of its armor and high kinetic resistance. As a non-Ch you can also get a cowardly gurrek, but while they do have more hitpoints they don't have the armor or as good kinetic resistance. When matched up side by side I believe the mountain krevol wins. The problem here though is that there will be some changes to CH and tamable creatures so you won't be able to use mountain krevols or cowardly gurreks any more.

Another counter to the negative would be to only engage non-creatures that won't melee. This pretty much limits you to faction missions or the random faction memebers that roam the planets.

Lastly, and the designer's favorite, group with other people. If you have a couple of players that can tank for you you can wipe out just about anything. Last night on endor my two swordsman buddies, their creatures and myself attacked a group of four mobs. The swordsmans and creatures were concentrating on one of the mobs while the others were attacking their backs. I just walked up to them and spammed flame cone. A second or 2 after the first one dropped the other three dropped. It was pretty sick.

Not sure what this last guy was talking about but if you make it to master BH that's about all you can do. Forget about picking up another profession unless you are looking for an ability at the novice level.

Commandos are a lot of fun to play. They're a really effective PvE class when combined with some CH skills. Lighting up a bunch of mobs with your flamethrower while your graul tanks them is a good feeling .

Personally I don't think its necessary to get pistoleer skills for the launcher pistol. Most of the pistoleer specials are actually less effective than the ones gained during marksman. But....you'll get a lot of weapon exp while your working on the 40k combat exp for novice commando, so you might as well go for pistoleer to get the second health bleed shot.

Commando is a ton of fun

You have to consider though, SWG is not a class based game, you do have skilpoints left, with that in mind, don't expect the Commando to be balanced against other classes by itself.
There are plenty of great things to do with the remaining skillpoints. Use 'em
Myself I am going for Master TKA... best of two worlds Having no terrain negotiation sucks though...

Adapt, imporvise, overcome.

I think Commando is great to play. I am a Master Commando and going Master swordsman. The mind bleeds and mind hits insure a decent survival rate in just about any situation.

Using grenades is fun even though they are broke. Rocket Launcher is just awesome to play with if you have the creds.

Launcher pistol for all its faults makes alot of noise and has tracers to watch.

All in all for the amount of skill points spent Master Commando is just fun.
