Greets,

I'm on the virge of going one way or the other with my Rodian 'toon, Neelok. I have been a Bounty Hunter but found it quite frustrating, but I loved the weapons... I gave it up a long time ago.

Now I'm back to getting unarmed 4 and I have Master Marksman and I'm finding myself VERY tempted by the toys and attraction of being a... .COMMANDO! A Rodian Commando specifically.

What I want to ask has to deal with PvP. Although I've been playing this game for quite a while, I have very little PvP experience and zero Commando experience.

I was planning on keeping Master Scout, and the single tree up ranger called 'Tracker'... for tracking and harvest bonus.... and adding master commando.

Does this sound plausible for a fun PvE template? (I'd love to get back into Krayyt killin'.)

Also I'm very curious how Commandos (without cherry picking other combat profs) do in PvP. I mean what do you do? Are you an integral part of your PvP team? Do you kill a fair amount? Do you just rely on the flamer? Do you avoid PvP?

Please advise, I'm finding myself really interested in the prof and woudl appreciate some words of wisdom from some commandos.

Thanks.

GAH post just went poof

well... pve: yes good, but not for high level content solo...with a tanking buddy you'll do great

pvp: bad template, stick to staying out of the fights till your buds put people on their back, then shoot those with consumables or apply flamedot

on the consumables: high accuracy is needed for pvp, aim for +90 for the HPBC and +70 for the RL, ONLY use the HPBC at 48m from target, same goes for RL though 48-64m is ok.

don't forget RL give splash damage, and always use speedsliced consumables for pvp

ALWAYS use citrus cake

if you encounter jedi: unequip flamer and run like hell...jedi can kill you before you even can get one shot off with your template

Hehe... that doesn't sound too promising.

I guess what I was hoping to hear is something along the line of... 'yea it's great fun for PvE and if you use weapon A or B then you can hold your own in PvP.'

So I guess that isn't the case. I imagine the attraction of all those fun weapons would wear off if you get your arse handed to you enough in PvP. As I said, I'm fairly new to PvP. My bounty hunter would down some dodge food and spam posture change/knockdown with some dizzy. It really doesn't seem there is much of a technical process in Commando for PvP.

Right now I'm halfway up master rifle and I find the boredom of spamming Headshot 3 a little too monotonous. I am pretty surprised with weapons like flamers and rocket launchers that there aren't more Commandos out there.

Maybe I'll see if there are any PvP commandos on my server and see what they say....

We used to be pretty good in PvP, but that was before our dots were nerfed, and wookiee armor was added (nothing quite like incapping a wook with a single shot).

In theory, the fabled CURB will make us viable in PvP again, at least a little bit.

well... commando can do ok in pvp but you'll need a more supporting template (I did M commando carbineer 2002 before, now doing a TK template)

if you are relatively new to pvp DO NOT try commando... I think only more "advanced" or experience pvp'ers can do well with it...

also NEVER EVER EVER EVER spam post change/ KD attacks....as two consecutive attacks cancel each other out (meaning if you land a KD and fire another after that your target will stand right back up)

That's the main problem, I think. Most other professions stand a small chance in PvP due to their defenses, dodge, or accuracy. We don't.

Ever notice when people are discussing their uber pvp templates on other boards that commando rarely, if ever, comes up? Commandos suck at PvP unless they're utilizing another profession to supplement.

No matter what we might be able to do with a supplemental profession in PvP, I don't think most of us will be satisfied until a pure commando can do half-way decent.

newsflash: no one single prof (jedi exempted) can do well in pvp...this game was MADE to dabble

TK's, MRM, pistoleer, carbineers whatever....if you combine em with eg. m artisan you will not be up to par in pvp vs someone who spent most if not all SP in combat profs

that being said: jedi were the only REAL though opponent I faced as m commando carbs 2002....well defense stacked swordmen too

I killed LOADS of stackers and melee/doc templates...all the rest died even easier but when facing a good pvp'r I was toast as they wouldn't let me stand for more than 10 seconds (I consider less than 10% of the people that pvp as a good pvp'r).

anyhow...once I finished grinding my uber commando I'll try to make some movies and post em here....even if only to prove M commando can be very viable in pvp

don't agree to your numbers...but that's my opinion

for the original poster: well...I'll just say if you stick to your role you'll do ok in pvp wait for the right time...then get some massive damage in...

I still kind of want to give it a shot.... so assuming I go this route, you're saying in PvP situations I'd have to lie in wait... until the right time and then?......

It's either commando or Rifleman (BH seemed a little borked) for me and I don't seem to think Rifleman is that fun, but I guess if it's a preferred weapon of PvP, so be it.

I myself have a Rifleman Doctor alt I use for the geo caves, DWB, and PvP. It's not not fun, but it's not great fun eather. the best part is winning though.which I do most of the time, as I almost never wilingly fight a melee dude. as for my commando TKM alt, when doing agenst somone useing TKM skill but probably haveing dabbled in something else I win (with my commando mind you, but then I have TKM with him to so I can't give you a "commando only" point of view) I win at least half the time.

what I'm trying to say iis yes, rifleman will do far better in PvP then commando does, but commando can hold their own some times, and after the CU should be much better.

Glorydragon-

Yes that's what I'm thinking... Rifleman might be a good deal better in PvP but Commando should get a healthy shot in the arm with the upgrade.

I appreciate your point of view because I have to be realistic.. I mean I want to use some of the cool weaponry but how fun is dying? With Rifles I guess I have a better shot and I actually have a +12 rifle aiming sash. (I think it's +12).

Thanks for the ideas, I'll have to ponder it but I'm at a make or break point because I'm out of skill points and am able to train up in either- another rifle skill -novice commando or -novice BH.

ehe but everyone and their granny is a rifleman (well most that aren't melee/docs or melee stackers anyhow)

when I was commmando I just tended to tab around till I saw an opponent KD, then open HPBC-hell on em Same tactic I use now as MBH withthe LLC... let me melee'rs get em down, then it usually takes me about 10 seconds to finish em off

but....maybe you should go rifleman...get some pvp experience, then go commando, because like I said it sure isn't easy to pvp with commando

I have never used a pure commando in PvP, I always start off with rifleman, useual rifleman tactics, i.e. flurry flushing suppresion, Mind shot and head shots. if they get close, i make sure they are stunned and dizzyied, then intimidate them and whip out the flamer. start stacking dots, I have some nice mind poison dots on my rifles, if they can heal, they usually heal the poison firts, while i stack the flam dots, by the time they get themselfves healed of poison, they realize to late they nhave 8+ fhealth fire dots on them, and NO one, not even a Master Healer jedi, can heal that fast.
