Thread: Need Template Advice, returning player.

Morning bump. Come on guys, Commando's in need of template advice.

well, let me say right off that i haven't tried the cu yet, but i have read as many posts as i could since it has come out.


to the guy concerned about tk armor while wielding a ranged weapon, from what i understand, it still works, but inorder to use cob, you need to unequip your ranged weapon, but you can still reequip it.


paladin7, there are probably a lack of replies either because the commando forum is generally slow, or alot of people are tired of template questions. there might be a sticky about them in 'usefull commando links', i'd have to check though. if you check a few pages back i'm sure you can find lots of discussion about templates.


in order to help with a template, we need to know your goals. you stated that you like to try to take things solo. if you are dead-set on keeping master commando,i've read that smuggler goes good with it. now, smuggler requires the same brawler line that commando does, and then the pistol line from marksmen. that puts you in a good position to get a few lines of pistoleer as well. if youwant to have a little more healing, you can try medic x12x i think itis, with up to +25 in healing tapes, and youwould probably be better off than you are with just regular old stims.you can find a guide to healing here , so you can figure out exactly how much healing is right for your situation. some people go with master commando, master smuggler, and then cm 4xxx, and that sounds like a lot of healing power. others say novice medic is enough, and others still would rather have as much offensive power as possible and rely soley on plain old stims and ruby bliel.

good luck with all of that. do you have any respecs left, or do you just have to make your template the old fashioned way?

as to the tk armor, you might want to check the tk forum.according to my character builder,the bonuses to innate armor are spread out through2 different branches, and the master box, but in the tk forum there should be a guide saying what + innate armor gives what protection in relation to 'normal' armor.

I also asked around Farstar forum and the talk about Commando / Smuggler got me thrilled. Rocket launcher and are KD with some dizzy thrown in, Root etc... I think I'll try some of that, tho it's nice to know that the innate armour works while holding a flamer.

Let me say right off the start, I'm not very knowledgable about SWG. I've had the game since the beginning, and have all of the expansions, but I have an on again / off again relationship with the game. I have been gone for about 6 months or so and don't really know what changes have been made.


That said, I'm currently a Master Commando / Master Rifleman / Pistoleer 0203.


What I like about this template is the ability to pick off single targets, use stopping shot on em, and use snipe shot and headshot till they're dead. If anything closes, disarming shot keeps them from firing right away, and I can switch to my rocket launcher to knock it down, maybe throw a flame DOT on him, and then retreat to a better rifle range again. And of course, the PFT comes in handy when you cannot knock them down anymore, and you have a large mob coming after you.


However, I'd really like some suggestions on a better template. I play alone a lot, solo'ing, and my inability to heal myself really hurts me. But if I drop Pistoleer to grab some medic, I lose the ability to use stopping shot. And if I downgrade my Rifleman from master to, let's say, 4400, I lose a lot of rifle speed and defense mods.


So I'm very open to suggestions on a new template, and ways to use it. I want to be a strong solo'er, but I want to be useful in a group as well. PVP is not as much of a concern, since in the whole time I've had the game I think I've only done PVP once or twice, but I will probably want to get into it eventually, so that's a consideration as well.

I don't have a reply, rather a question, but it makes no sense of having two similar threads started.


I'm aiming for Master Commando (soon there). For roleplay tool purposes I intend (for now) keep Master ID. So, I won't be CL 80 with double elite master and an additional tree of something nice. I'd like to hear suggestions what prof would be a nice complement. Is TK's automatic armour in effect and in use if I wield a ranged weapon like flamer?


For my char it'd make sense to have hand-to.hand capabilities, especially with the natural armour since she dislikes wearing armours. Most likely pretty much all the hunts would be at least semi-IC and my toon without any armour. Hence the issue of natural protection is integral. If there's no benefit from that TK ability I'd be inclined to pick up ranged trees to support heavy weapon usage. What would make sense?


Heh, I'm hoping to hear good suggestions soon as I now have Brawler 4040 and Master Marksman nad have to drop skill boxes to regain skill points for Commando adcancement. I'd like to know what to drop.
