Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention. Use your flamethrower in a prone position. You will not only fire faster, but you'll also ignite your video card! Have fun.

Also remember to turn off sound FX.. you'll be hearing constant chugging and stuttering due to the heavy particle FX generation by the game

Well your first thing for a commando to get a flame thrower... would be doable IF the server i play on had the resources spawn on it.

I wish I didn't have access to heavy weapons... then I might spend more time getting other types of xp then debating whether I want to kite things for half an hour to get 4k hw xp.

If you think the Flamethrower is bad on framerates, try a Launcher Pistol sliced down to 2.3 speed

Flamethrower

Works fine, or does it?

The flamethrower does approximately 25-250 damage with a 6 second refresh time. At this point in time the flamethrower is the only logical weapon to use for gaining heavy weapons experience. Let's take a closer look. Let's take a run of the mill weapon such as the scout blaster and compare it to a flamethrower. Flamethrower: 25-250, 6 seconds.. Scout Blaster: 60-120, 2 seconds. As most of you know, that is a terrible scout blaster anyways, but the flamethrower is the norm. If we were to calculate this out not using specials, the scout blaster outdamages the flamethrower by 3 or 4 fold. Now let's say we're using specials, the scout blaster with stopping shot could do about 500-700 damage on average, and about 250 damage with a bleeding dot. The flamethrower special does a fire dot that lasts about a minute (if that) and does approximately 50-100 damage each click, the refresh time is 15 seconds (during which you are completely vulnerable to attack). I won't even follow this one up with my 2 cents, you do the math. All in all, you can gain some heavy weapons experience with this weaponat a decent rate and i'll explain to you how shortly.

Acid Rifle

Broken Certification, but is that such a big deal?

The acid rifle damage is comparable to that of a flamethrower (approx 25-250 damage with a 6 second refresh time). There isn't much I can say here because people can only do about 10 damage per shot. If the certification did work though, would the rifle really be worth it? You would have about the same damage as the flamethrower. I'll wait until they fix the certification before viewing this weapon more, but I probably won't use it anyways.

Beam Cannons

Charges, excuse me? Charges?

The big boys of the commando line, or so we might think. All of the beam cannons have a certain number of charges on them. What this breaks down to is a useless weapon after an average of 100 shots. Let's think in terms of money for a second. You're fighting a monster with a 10k ham, your beam cannon is doing approximately 200-700 damage (no specials). Let's just say that you are a master at using the heavy weapons.. By the time the fight has ended you would have used approximately 30-40 charges on your weapon. At the end of this fight you have just used up about 1/3 of your weapons durability (i say durability because you have to toss the gun once the charges are gone, no repairing, no recharging). The average selling rate of a beam cannon is 20-40k. With this cannon you wouldn't be able to kill enough creatures to make up 1/2 of what you payed for it. Sure, you could do suicide missions and just farm for money to pay it off but what good is that. Now, you're probably saying to yourself "yes, but the gun will roxxor in pvp". This is where you are sadly mistaken, forget the 10 second refresh time? Bottom line, I like the idea of these weapons... I will use them at some point when I have millions of credits to throw around.. For the time being though, I can think of a thousand other ways to spend my money.

Grenades

"I love them" for the most part.

Something worthwhile, shocking isn't it. Although it is very hard to actually hit your target without some accuracy, I must say that the grenades are nice to use. The splash damage does work and can turn that pack of chubas into fried frog. On a serious note though, I have been able to deal over 300 damage on a player with a fragmentation grenade which isn't half bad. My only real complaint for the grenades is they do nothing but damage. If you take a look at other combat professions and look at their specials you begin to envy them. Most combat lines have some sort of special that will blind, dizzy, stun, and even knockdown their target... Ok, all of those are perfect for grenades? Am I missing something here? In real life when a grenade is thrown in the blast radius of a person they are not only knocked down, they are thrown! Not only are they stunned and dizzy by the explosion but they are also deaf. What happened with the grenades in swg? The animation looks to me like they explode on impact but yet they do less damage than a cdef using a special? I love the grenades but for ***** sake give them something besides a long refresh time. I can see in large scale pvp where a group of your opposing faction is standing in a 10m radius of each other that grenades will become semi-useful, but that's about it.

All in all, the commando is my biggest disappointment (aside from losing more than half my inventory and getting a response of tough **** from a csr). This is not a damage dealing profession. You will not impress your friends or save the princess from the man eating nunas. Many people say that the commando will be very useful when vehicles come into play, possibly. I think to myself, are all the commando weapons meant for vehicles? What about the flamethrower, is that supposed to break through the armor of a heavily armored AT... beats me, i guess i'll wait and see.. wouldn't make much sense though would it. Now, for all of you that are still going to go up the commando line (i'm not giving up on it) here are a few simple tips for you to follow.

1) Make sure you have a flamethrower

2) Make sure you have a gun with a bleeding shot

3) Make sure you break up with your girlfriend so you can hit master flamethrower specialization

Once you have finished these 3 steps it is time for you to gain some experience. Never, I repeat.. Never try to gain experience in a group. Not only will you be ridiculed by the people you're playing with they will also complain about how bad their framerate is because of your heavy weapon. Arguing with them isn't worth it, remember it's your fault! Now, on to soloing.. What I find best is going out to Lok and kiting the hell out of the slowest thing I can find. Today's recent patch has changed the speed of the cat-like creatures, so I am sure that the next time i see a langlatch it will run mach 10 and do a flying dropkick to my head.. But don't dispair there are still other creatures that you can kite with no problem. For some of you that don't know, kiting is the art of running as fast as you can away from your enemy while still attacking him. As a commando you will become a master of running away with your tail between your legs so get used to it. Now, one more major point. You don't have to deal full damage to gain the full experience. What I mean is this... find yourself the juiciest red mob you can, take out your flamethrower and try really hard to hit it a couple times, now switch to your gun with bleeding shot and let the blood flow from his/its veins... Run like a bat out of hell and hit peace until you're blue in the face. Sit back and watch your victim bleed to death, voila full experience. If you're feeling randy you might even want to take your flamethrower back out and tickle him while he dies. And of course now that i've mentioned this it will be fixed immediately, cause there are more important things to fix than a broken elite profession. Have fun.

I've used the launcher pistol in pvp and pve and I must say that it has no comparison to a scout blaster or fwg5. The launcher has some of the worst accuracy modifiers I've seen for a pistol. Sure, It has enough power to stop someone in their tracks with one shot... but that's only because 1/2 the people running around atm aren't wearing armor. I get 2x as many stopping shots off with a scout blaster than I do with the launcher pistol. In comparison, the launcher doesn't compare... It's good for those that want to do as much damage as possible in one shot and then get owned.
