I just posted an idea for flamerthrowers on another thread and thought I would repost it here. I've heard about the problems with our weapons and the poor DoT of the flamer. I came up with the following idea for flamers. When used in combat the flamethrower had one major advantage over other weapons. It was psychological. People in general have a strong fear of being burned alive. This includes soldiers. When they first appeared in WWI soldiers would often break and run from the new weapon. Troops carrying them would draw large amounts of fire from the enemy. Where am I going with this? How about adding this fact into the inherint abilities of the flamethrower in the game. Basically give the flamethrower the built in ability to act like a threaten / warning shot. Any flamer shot would act this way even if the flamer special isn't used. Commandos already have threaten and warning shot as part of their marksman tree. Why not make use of it and add the flavor of a real flamethrower in action. This would also seem to ease the problem of the long delays with this weapon. Instead of hitting the critter once and having it on top of you in two seconds, it would back of in fear before coming towards you. The actual delay wouldn't change but it would affect how much time you were under attack. You would also keep the DoT of the flamer to represent the fuel (napalm) burning the target. Thoughts or suggestions? I realize there are more pressing issues to get fixed. But since the code is already available for this it seems it would be fairly easy to add it to the flamer and give us a bone.
