Commando

a military unit trained and organized as shock troops especially for hit-and-run raids into enemy territory

Shock Troop

troops especially suited and chosen for offensive work because of their high morale, training, and discipline

A commando by definition should be the best combat unit of any army able to take on tasks normal soliders cant handle getting deep into enemy territory hitting bases, airfield's or in swg droid factories. The current build of commando seems to be designed to destorying vehicles that dont even exist in the game, a commando should be a highly trained soldier that is able to take on multiple enemys and strike deep into enemy territory. Thats what i thought one was when i decided to pick this class thinking it was functioning when i first started playing swg only to learn after reaching novice the 2nd week into the game that the swg commando is completey diffrent from the definition. The role of commando should be as a offensive unit that should add greatly to any group envierment, and if no group is present alone. Im not going to renew my account at the end of the month unless this class is completly remade, and if its functioning the way it was intended they need to RENAME the class to somthing that fits the tree so other people dont get confused with the mess that the swg commando is. You will never find a commando in rl that only uses heavy weapons to attack, they are highly tried in assault rifles and machine guns, and use gernades, rocket launchers, and other heavy weapons as a secondary attack to take out groups of enemys, bunkers, or vehicles. I think something like Heavy Weapons Novice would be a better choice and remove the unarmed spec because face it all other classes that take 2 basic novice skills to learn are a hell of a lot better then commando is, The Devs made a pretty good point that commando is a second class and need to be built like one unless the whole class is rebuilt from top to bottom.

All commando's that paid for this game we deserve more from a product were investing 15/month in if you feel like you didnt get what you paid for cancel your account theres other games coming out that will be just as good if not better. And if SOE fixes the class before the month is over reactivate your account you wont lose anything and atleast you wont be giving SOE anymore money for selling a product thats diffrent from the advertised box. These big companies need to be responisble and treat there paying subscribers as investers i dont feel like i was, i feel like i paided for something that wasnt true to the advertisments. This game has really pushed the limits with selling a product thats not what it apears to be. On the back of the box is says Follow your own path with a skill-based advancement system, which accommodates your style of play, whether you become a bounty hunter or a dancer or a merchant or even a jedi. Now as a commando i dont feel like i got that.

I think there are a few misconceptions here. You actually will find commandos that only use heavy weapons. A machine gun is technically a heavy weapon. Usually in a squad you will have at least one machine gunner which is your heavy weapons person. You also may have two grenadiers which are also heavy weapon specialists. Though their grenade launchers are attached to their rifles so they do have a heavy weapon and regular weapon.

Also commandos are not necessarily the best units in an army. Though they are the most highly trained in a specific field. They are a highly specialized unit specializing in small unit tactics. The key word being small unit. Specifically hit/run attacks or the seizure of high value targets until such time as a regular unit can move in and relieve them. When they are used incorrectly or assigned tasks they are not qualified for they usually fair poorly.

That last post has a good point. On the other hand, commandos are generally trained to fight in small units using "force multiplying" tactics. That is, their mission roles typically involve advance movement into enemy territory in a front war involving anything from raids tocalling in air strikes. Some commandos may use heavy weapons, but you'll typically find those in more mainstream "Spec Ops" units such as the Green Berets. As as I know can tell, other units such as the SAS or Delta usually like to use more stealthier tactics--but, of course, it depends on the kind of mission. In any case, commandos should have access to heavy weapons, sure, but nothing like "Animal Mother" in Full Metal Jacket--that's pushing it! And certainly not a flamethrower... That's just ridiculous!

Weapons should include any easily carried LMG for heavy weapons, grenade launchers (fitted or not), and the like. But not flamethrowers... Just not practical in most cases for commandos.

As for the rest of the arsenal, commandos should be trained to use carbines and rifles.

And I still think the skill tree should include some kind of stealth. A master commando would know some heavy weapons, some carbine, rifle, pistol, unarmed, and demolitions. Perhaps demolitions should be an exclusive of the commando along with stealth. Demolitions might improve mine damage--but then they'd need other kinds of mines, which means certification in different mines. Anyway, the point is that commandos are, generally, speaking, the cream of the crop, but that doesn't mean they are meant to fill in the role of the main forces, as per the last poster.

What makes commandos elite are their penchant for rather stealthy attack and advanced tactics to allow for precision strikes that are often designed to keep the enemy guessing. They may never have time to retaliate well if at all. In essence, he that strikes first and strikes well, wins.

If only the devs would design vehicles to allow aerial insertions... lol

Oh yeah, and I'm sure I submitted this in another thread... But stealth is almost, IMHO, the defining thing of a commando. Without it, it doesn't seem right. They should rename our current "commando" shock trooper (as per the first poster) or heavy weapons specialist (though that's too long). Anyway, I was gonna say that using stealth tactics might include being able to fire a carbine to allow for the carabineer to perform a special sneak attack on the first that does something like twice (possibly up to three times) damage that the mob doesn't detect. This would allow the commando to fire while in the standing position perhaps to allow quick movement to another target without having to go prone. After the first hit, of course, the commando, unless prone, would be easily detected. Stealth might also work like mask scent for the scout. Anyway, perhaps I'm ranting, but I honestly think stealth is essential....

I would also like to see a stealth option. Though I don't think it should be exclusive to Commando's. I could see it being used by a class like Rangers also. I agree with the previous poster about not being sure about flamethrowers. But I've thought of a nice way to make them a bit more than they are. In combat the flamethrower had one large advantage over other weapons. This was psychological. Soldiers had a very strong fear of being bured alive. They can see the sheet of flame approaching and they would sometimes panic. How would you incorporate this into the game? Easy. They already have threaten shot and warning shot. Why not give the flamer this ability inherintly? It would do DoT and have a chance to cause them to run in terror.

I think SOE just stumble on that one, the class isn't really commando...it should be call "Heavy"

The class is focusing on heavy weaponry and on nade....it don't show to me as a commando bu rather as an Heavy that's it. So either rename the profession into Heavy "Heavies" or change the tree

Unfortunetly the devs have said they won't do stealth as cheaters will just find a way to get around it giving them an unfair advantage.
