Why are they forcing us to spend even more poiints outside the Commando line?
I dont get it. We have already mastered the entire marksman profession. We have also masted unarmed in teh brawler profession. And now for us to actually get any kind of styles with our MAIN profession weapon (launcher pistol) we have to spend even more points in pistoleer profession. And now there is talk that they may make rifle styles available to acid rifle. Doesnt it bother some of you other guys that instead of actually fixing our Commando porfession and giving us our own defensive skills and offensive styles, we have to spend even more points outside our own profession after we have already had to master marksman and unarmed?
Wouldnt it be wiser to just fix our own weapons, give us both defensive skills and offensive styles to make us a viable profession without having to keep spending more points on something we should already have? Remember, if they make where launcher pistols are essentially heavy pistoleer weps, acid rifles are heavy rifle weps, and flamethrower are heavy carbine weps you do NOT get ANY additional accuracy or speed points in any of these lines like they do in Bounty Hunter. A bounty hunter can have over 120 speed and accuracy in either pistol or carbine if he masters either Bounty Carbine or Bounty Pistol and either becomes a Master Pistoleer, or a Master Carbineer. However as a Commando, if you master lets say Flamethrower, you do NOT receive ANY additional accuracy or speed that stacks on to Flamethrower by becoming a Master Carbineer. You will simply be able to use the carbine styles for your flamethrower. Why would you want to use a gimped weapon with slow speed and accuracy for carbine styles when you can just use a carbine weapon and do it 100% better. Same would go for launcher pistol and acid rifle.
If I wanted a pistoleer, I would have just become a pistoleer. If I wanted a carbineer, I would have become a carbineer. I wanted a commando, and thats what I expect to have after the time I invest into my character after paying my money for the product I purchased and read the false advertising in the book about the Commando proffesion.
Dont give the devs an easy way out by cut and paste coding so we will be happy with inferior carbine and pistol weps.
We are Commandos and we should expect what was promised of our class, not accept medicore fixes in order patronize us.
When I first head of these fixes, I was pretty happy about it. However after thinking about it more, and reading the forums I realized that these 'fixes' arnt fixes really, they are just a way to turn us into sub-par pistoleers, rifleman, and carbineers.
If they decide to proceed with this line of 'fixes' and determine we are indeed heavy pistoleers, carbineers, or rifleman, than they need to remove our unarmed req all together so we can master what we need to master in the rifle, pistol, and carbine professions. And they need to get this done asap, we are moving into our 2nd month of this game fast with a profession that isnt even beta ready, much less good to go for a live game.
Who the hell knows maybe some dev thought he would be tricky with this class and think it was cool or something.
That's exactly what the launcher changes are.. placate the hostile masses.
Instead of doing the job properly and developing the class, they are just making do with what they have on hand now.
We should have skill mods that are similar to most of the other elite professions. Actually, they should exceed the others, as we are required to stand out more to even use our "special-case" weapons. Using a flamethrower makes us a HUGE target, both in the visual effects and the fact that we are almost 20m closer than everyone else.
I'm also reminded of Holo's metrics post during the Beta. BH was supposed to be THE hardest profession to master, followed by Commando. How many Master BH are there? Probably ALOT more than the one Master Commando in the whole game.
We're gated, we're gimped.. we're Commandos!
Im glad to see other commandos feel the way I do. As much as I am happy to see they finally recognize the fact we are currently in need of work, I fear that unless we speak up now and let them know that we WILL NOT settle for simple cut and paste game coding for our 'elite' profession we all have had to work so hard to get and those of us who are trying to make the best of it even though we are ridiculed and laughed at by others as being 'the gimp' class of the game.
I spent almost 2 years playing a Thane on daoc.To me a commando is sorta like a thane on daoc. They are a special hybrid class with flare. They are diverse and able to get in your face or hit you from range. However in daoc after so many other classes for over a year were tweaked and upgraded, thanes went stale for a long time and went from being one of the best tanks in daoc, to the most ridiculed and laughed at class in the game. They were deemed as 'the gimp' class and they were not group friendly and labeled as mezz breakers, and weak tanks as well as weak casters. Finally after overa year, the thanes FINALLY received some love and after that thane patch, getting some spec armor and weps, and some more realm points my thane was once again a true badass.
I do NOT want to have to wait a full year to see a class which I love ridiculed and thought of as 'the gimp class' again. Commandos really could be something great, however the devs need to realize unless they REALLY fix the class and offer what they promised so many of us who wanted to become a Commando right from the moment we first read of the profession, they are ruining their reputations, the game, and what little respect we may still have for SOE and the developers.
I DO NOT want an instant 'I WIN' set of skills for my commando. What I do want is to be able to compete with other professions in the game, as well as play a profession in what they advertised it as.
I did not realize that when I picked commando for a profession Commando actually meant 'tele-tubbie with pop gun and really cool effects'
I didn't realize that these proposed fixes were "cut and paste" patches. **edit**....
In all honesty, when I was looking to pick up this game two things stood out for me. ONE-Players could be Imperial. TWO-Professions. After looking at the available professions, I liked commando so I picked up the game. If I knew commando was going to be this messed up, I would've reconsidered my choice to pick this up. Anyway...here are my thoughts.
Thought 1: After looking at the previous posts, i also believe that we need an incremental improvement on our baseline for commando's. Simply put, increase our stats for using our commando weapons as we progress up the Commando tree line.
Thought 2: Ok, everyone knows that the BH profession is supposed to be the best (not to mention the hardest to obtain), THEN followed by commando. How it is now, more ppl are BH's than commando's. It's a lot harder to get to Commando than BH for MANY reasons. If we are supposed to be the "silver medal" profession for bad arse's, why are we near the bottom? If the devs look at it, fixing professions should be a Pyramidal scheme like this, priority wise:
Commando
l
Bio-Engineer, Chef, Droid Engineer
l
CH, BH, etc
l
Etc
Since it looks like we are the profession that most needs an overhaul, we should get the most attention in future updates, followed by the priority tree. So, 60% of a new profession patch would concern itself with fixing Commando, and so on and so forth. That way, our profession gets fixed, and other professions get tweaked so they don't feel left out and start to complain.
Thought 3: Simply put, we need real fixes. Not applying one classes certs to ours. I would really like our profession to be what the manual and the dev's say it's supposed to be...the Big Mamajama class right behind BH.
Thought 4: I would like the development team actually listen to our Correspondent.Numerous times I've heard him say that he hasn't received any feedback after submitting our comments. What is that all about?
Last thought: MORE COMMUNICATION!!!!!!!
Yeah, I'm almost at commando and will continue on the path. Why? Because I bought this darn game just to be an Imperial Commando. Not an Imperial Carbine-pistol-rifleman who can shoot flame's and rockets.
