Thread: What is your secondary profession?
I was originally a Smuggler/Pistolier. My friend went on a mission with me one day and showed what kind of carnage his flamethrower could inflict. My thoughts were, 'Ohhhhhh, commando's are not a subtle lot, I must become one of these.' So I trained hard and I just got my flamethrower4 rating this morning. woot!
So I'm playing with the character builder and thought, 'I am planning on going overt one day, joining a guild, and then making full use of the perks. What would be the best '2nd' profession for an aspiring commando to kill the most stuff (players, mobs, I'm not particular...... I'm using this game as therapy so I don't go insane in rl ) in the most efficient manner?' So I've thought of the following possibilites:
Smuggler: I've trained most of my remaining points into this one. And I got the grinding material to get slicing4 and spice4 so Smuggler Mastery is not too far behind once I take the time to do some grinding. But I'm not in love with this one. The pistol skills are nice and the faction bonuses are helpful, but I'm thinking I could do better.
Pistolier: Good for close quarters PvP. And these powers can be used by the launcher pistol, right? But isn't commando already strong less than 16m?
TeraKasi: Deadly in melee, but this one looks like one tall mountain to climb to become a master. But if I'm already a master commando, why should I learn another close quarters profession? Is it because TK can interrrupt attacks in melee?
Rifleman: This is the one, imho, that complements Commando very well. I know the speed and accuracy bonuses stack with the heavy acid rifle. But I was thinking that in PvP, or when I am out hunting, that I could use my rifle when I'm greater than 40m away, swtich over to flamethrower when my target approaches, and nail it when it is less than 16m.
So what is, in your humble opinion, the best 'second' profession that complements commando?
Thanks in advance for the advice,

smuggler fd is the best frend a commando can have that and panick shot {it delys them just long enough to burn and swich wep then almost enogh time to fd}
and tka the defenc sid can save ur hid one or twice
You could always jump on the bandwagon and become part CH....
Your creature could keep them at bay as you blast the crap out of them.
Personally, im a Commando, Pistoleer (Pistol Techniques, great def mods + specials for LP), and...err...entertainer with music IV (but thats not the point
)
TKA is nice, however you wont be able to hit anything even with your FT is off during the delay in specials
Smuggler is nice with FD and paniac, but id choose pistoleer over this
Medical skills are very lucrative
CH as well, but of course thats wimping out
(get a non-ch pet!!!
)
but, in my proffessional opinion, pistoleer is the best route to go (at least until LP is given its own specials or commandos get better def mods..aint gonna happen soon tho) especially pistol techniques..i havent delved into the def mods of smug. nor tka so i wont compare, but every single def mod in PT branch just blow our +5 mods away...comeon, +30 def vs KD in tier 4 meanwhile we get a measly +5...and the specials REAAAAALLY help on LP...and especially on At-Sts (try hitting 2k per LP hit, and having all that dmg going thru the armor since its blast!)
I am going TKA now, so master commando aiming for 0/4/0/4 TKA to get most of the defensive mods, some medic too of course. I found that using the flame DoT, then tanking the rest of the fight with TKA is much more effecient.
Even now, with just 0/0/0/1 TKA (just switched) I can kill better and faster then I could with Smuggler.
Not using any pets makes fights challenging and fun, and is certainly doable. More risk, more fun (for me). Nothing against pets, I have a MCH on Lowca, but I wanted a pure combat class without any pets. With the TKA defensive mods that is very much possible, and with the upcoming upgrade to TKA, it even gets better.
