Thread: I guess I'm the first Female Bothan Commando...
Well, Future Commando...
I'mCurrently about 10,000 (a bit less than that)General Combat xp away from Novice Commando.
My Commando Weapons and strategy for using them...
I'll keep 3 weapons at all times:
1. Flamethrower
2. Heavy Acid Rifle
3. Launcher Pistol
My attack plan:
1. Set them on fire with Flamethrower.
2. Change to weapopn with most effective damage type
Congrats from another Bothan.
Until now I was certain I was the shortest Commando in the game. ![]()
Waaaaa!
I wanted to be the shortest commando in the game! Maybe I can find an image designer to make me even shorter.............
Welcome to one of the most heavily hated professions in the game.
Couple of notes - first, nice to see a fellow Bothan in the profession, even if some believe women's places are in the chef's, tailors or entertainer professions ![]()
Second - the heavy acid rifle is currently pretty much useless. Don't waste your time with it. Wait until you read here that it's been "fixed" and made more effective. For now, use the launcher pistol and the flame thrower. When you get enough heavy weapons experience, boost the flame thrower and keep doing that until you have it maxed. At that point, you'll be much more effective with it. At novice level, you'll have bad time hitting anything you aim at, and will miss most of your shots. Wait for the accuracy mods to kick in at the higher levels, and then it becomes far more useful. WHATEVER YOU DO - DON'T LEAVE THAT WEAPON EQUIPPED AFTER FIRING IT. Fire it, then switch to the launcher pistol. If you get hit for melee damage, you'll be looking at your incapped self laying on the ground if you had the flame thrower equipped. Equip it, fire it, stow it. Switch to the launcher pistol, and finish your kill with it.
Use the health shot specials with the launcher pistol to bleed attack things you are attacking. Use the flame thrower from range if you can stay at range (if you're using a Creature Handler or non-Creature Handler pet or droid as a distractor). Lay prone when you are firing it, and you'll get a speed boost and accuracy boost, but for gods sake, don't let yourself get attacked while in that position or while you are kneeling.
With those general rules, you can be very effective as a Commando. Work up to Flame 3 and you'll be hitting what you aim at (most of the time), and with the launcher, you can still inflict bleeds and other damage on your opponents. If you pick up Pistoleer skills, you can get some speed boosts and other worthwhile benefits, so that may not be a bad place to put some additional points.
Creature Handler isn't bad if you want your own pets, or want to use higher level ones.
Someone had suggested smuggler for the feign death skill.
Several good choices, depending on how you want to proceed.
But.... for now, ignore the HAR (Heavy Acid Rifle) and ignore the consummable weapons that are in the Heavy Weapons Support tree. The consummables are expensive (roughly 1k credits per shot) and ineffective without getting far up that tree. After you've gotten enough heavy weapons experience, you can really make use of those things, but again, be prepared for missing with them, and have lots of credits to buy them (or make good friends with a weaponsmith!)
If the HAR is fixed in the future, it'll be more effective, and worth the effort, but as is, unless you are seriously trying to master commando, it's not worth it. Nor are the grenades for the most part. Ignore them for the most part until you've gotten the middle columns (Heavy Weapons Support and Flame Thrower) maxed. Then go back and get Field Tactics and Heavy Acid Rifle skills. You'll be more effective, and have more fun in the long term.
Just watch out for that melee damage attack coming back at you. It's a real killer.
Please need to stop thinking things are nerfed at first glance and actually try them out and find the right situation for the weapon in question.
Oh, the launcher pistol just sucks.
