Greetings,
I recently bought a second account so I could pursue the commando profession and I can honestly say that so far, it has been a blast.
My first character is a pikeman, and I wanted to share with you a few observations that I've had from being one since launch (with a period of hibernation during the fall).
As a pikeman, I have been playing, arguably, the most laughable combat profession in the game. You would assume that the pikeman would never stop complaining and be unable to have a good time with their profession. However, this is not the case. The pikeman community is one of the most close-knit and enjoyable bunch of people in the game.
So what's the difference?
Unlike other professions, pikeman realize that they are not going to be single-handedly a deciding force in combat. They realize that they need others to help them with just about anything. I think the other combat professions have yet to realize this.
The problem with commando is not that we have no defense, not that we have no launcher pistol specials, not that we rely on the flame thrower...it's that a majority haven't realized that to be a good commando means we have to have good combat medics, good melee, good ranged, good doctors, good create handlers etc.
Every other combat profession complains about how broken they are simply because they expect their skill tree to hand them a free ticket to battleground domination. The only way to be anywhere decent at combat is to find some friends who's skills make up for the ones you lack and let your skills complement theirs.
I always hope that by coming to these forums I can get juicy commando tips and useful information. Unfortunately, that rarely happens. The "tips/strats" to "why we suck" post ratio is about 1 to 20. I would emplore you to talk about what is good about this profession, rather than dwell on what is broken.
I for one love being a commando and all this whining isn't going to nerf that one bit. I know some will dismiss this by saying "he hasn't been a commando very long, he'll change his mind." But if I can stick with pikeman, which is far more useless than commando ever could be, and enjoy it, I have no doubt that commando will remain a fullfilling and rewarding profession.
Cheers,

I appreciate your view on grouping and support, but your comparison is a bit skewed.
Master Pikeman = 92 skill points used with 158 remaining.
Master Commando = 169 skill points used with 81 remaining.
A profession that only uses 92 skill points to master ought to expect to needs lots of comabt support.
A profession that uses 169 should expect to need much, much less support.
It's a matter of "getting what you paid for" in skill points, I think. My opinion anyway.
