Thread: Whats wrong with acid specifically?

My guildmate went commando and he's been asking me for advice and I told him not to buy an acid rifle. I told him it was broken because thats what i've read here. Well he bought one and said its awesome. What exactly is wrong with it, or not wrong with it?

Are you a commando? Have you ever used a commando weapon?
What profession are you? What weapons do you use?

I use a Spectre FT and a launcher pistol. I have never use an acid rifle because i've been told it was broken. I have field tactic 3 and FT IV.

Strange, last time I used an HAR I about killed myself with special costs and didn't even hit the target.

ok, so being a wookiee, i dont really worry about special costs. But the accuracy sucks? Cant be any worse than what FT was like at novice

well, you can hit with an acid rifle, and i didn't take the special to be too serious, BUT it doesn't dot. it is pretty much a flamethrower doing acid damage, but acid single doesn't cause a dot (why not remains a mystery to me, fire and acid seem to be a good base for dots...), so as it is basically the same, pick the FT, as you will probably be able to pick up a good ft with less effort than a mediocre har. mine went into my vault waiting to get fixed after extensive testing on several quenker missions.

Ok what exactly is wrong with it.
None of the mods we get for the thing in any part of the entire proffession effects our useage of the HAR at all. Master commando can pick it up and shoot exactly as fast as its speed is, while when you pick up a flamethrower, you notice you aren't shooting once every 5 seconds (for a 5.0 speed flamethrower) your shooting about once every 3 seconds. Pick up a HAR and you will see that if its speed is 5.0 you shoot exactly once every 5 seconds. This effects the specials speed, in the sense that if you use any of the specials, your recover time is 3 times what the weapons speed is (15 seconds).
Accuracy is the same way, besides the fact that we have 2 diffrent sets of accuracy mods for the HAR, we benifit from neither of them, and miss MORE then a novice commando with a flamethrower misses. Nothing about it works as it should be. Your friendly likely thinks its awesome because when he does hit it hits for 300-400 damage, once he gets higher into the tree and starts useing specials he will **edit** for a year about it, once he realizes he isnt shooting any faster no matter how high in the tree he is, he will realize its broken.

It's just that the accuracy and speed doesn't increase as your skills do, so it ends up being very difficult to use. I do like the HAR alot however because of the speed and accuracy issues it can't really be used unless your supporting a group of players where you're able to crouch down in one place and fire away with it. Soon as you try to use it any other situation you start seeing that it's just not any good for general combat.
