Thread: Gaming the System?

I believe it was TH who used the phrase "Gaming the System"...

Aren't we supposed to do that?

Aren't we supposed to realize strengths/weaknesses of certain professions and adapt?

Aren't we supposed to expirement to make ourselves more competitive?

Isn't this a game?

Isn't somebody supposed to win in a battle?

Shouldn't there be a variety?

When I first started playing, I wanted to be a Commando. I remember seeing another player use his Pistol Launcher on some storm troopers that I saw for the first time, and thought "Wow that's what I want to be".

As a newb, I struggled for almost 2 months to finally obtain Master Commando. (Granted now that I'm not a newb, I could do it in a lot less time). I get it - finally - w00t. Was extremely disappointed with Rocket Launchers, Lightning Cannon, Grenades, and Heavy Acid Rifle. The only thing I had was my Trusty Flamethrower.

Then I attack my first AT-ST with a group of about 15 other rebels. We took it down!!!!! We were all over joyed - even though shortly after we were slaughtered by another group of Imperials (yes even a commando is beaten from time to time). It didn't matter though, we were ecstatic that we killed an AT-ST. We partied and told stories about the raid for days after. Gradually it became easier, and on a few occassions I was able to solo AT-ST's without the use of a pet in PVE. Sometimes even without having to reclone at least once (rarely did this happen).

Then the patch came out where the AT-ST's ham was increased. I learned to Adapt to the heavier ham and resists. Fine, AT-ST's couldn't be solo'd any more. As it stands now it's a difficult task to take one down - even with 2 or 3 commando's hitting it. Usually an AT-ST isn't alone. Usually they're accompanied by some storm troopers, PC's, or Imperial Officers. If you're lucky enough to have 2 commando's and a few pets accompanied by an army of 10 other rebels to keep the others off of you, you might succeed in taking one of the AT-ST's down without having to reclone more than once. Usually, however, I have to reclone about two times - minimum.

As for PVP against another Player. Well - you're right the DoT is a pitch. But,so is a Combat Medic with poison (btw are we going to get something to cure these as well?), so is a TKA with KD, a Pistoleer with Panic Shot, a BH with Eye Shot. You get my drift...

Additionally,

  1. I was always lucky to even get a shot off - and hit my target. If I got off two, I should be allowed to stack, because usually by the time I got off my first shot I would be dead.

  2. Half the time I would be kited or knocked on my arse by some TKA from 30m away

  3. Flame is supposed to burn! That's the point of fire. And Usually it doesn't incap an opponent immediately. Most of the time after I get a flame on somebody, they have enough time to incap me before the flame does its damage.

  4. Flame should cause a slow painful death. After all, it is fire.

Now, I may seem insensitive with that last one, but I've also been hit with a flame. You know what? I deal with it. I learn. I adapt. I change my strategy. I "game the system" if you will. It's what every "gamer" does.

Please don't nerf the commando further! I've already decided now (due to the bugs) to change away from commando. If they push this nerf through, I may just decide to discontinue PVP entirely until combat changes (which are at least a month away), or just discontinue my accounts until spring.

Every month, the devs come out with a supposed 'fix' of some sort. Usually they wind up causing even more bugs. I've been paying for my account for almost 6 months now. I even started another account to earn some credits as a crafter recently and help support my guild with resources/equipment/etc... I've learned to adapt and change and modify my strategies. But this latest change is just the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.

I certainly hope SOE is reading these forums. There are a lot of unhappy 'customers'. They need to fix the bugs! I would've survived without creature mounts. I would've survived without Act 2 or 3. I would've survived even without vehicles. Instead of adding more content, fix the problems that are their currently! This is outrageous. I would imagine if they adjusted their staff to work on fixing problems instead of adding more content we wouldn't be in this state now.

Granted, they say the new combat/weapon systems (which they've been talking about for months and is still months away) will alleviate woes. In the meantime, they want us to be patient and keep paying that monthly fee for a busted product.

We've all been patient. We all love the potential of this game. And, I'm sorry if this isn't considered a 'positive' post, but how are we supposed to be 'positive, happy, go lucky customers' with a busted product? Anytime anyone ever buys a product and it's busted they are unhappy. Well I for one am unhappy, and am posting a negative post in HOPES that it doesn't fall on deaf ears/eyes.

Negatively Yours...
