Thread: Lotsa new jedi comin with the publish: is there any hope for the heavily armed soldier

everyone is lookin foward to the new pub...so the entire galxy can be filled with jedi. but will therebe any room for us hardcore professions, or are we all gonna have to submit and become jedi also just to survive. I dont know about the rest of you commandos. but i think im gonna make a pact with the BH and go on some serious jedi hunting parties. get them while they are still young and we mighthave a chance lol.


but seriously. what happens to all our skill when people start poppin out jedi. is there any point in staying in a profession like this..or should we follow the lead of the other professions and join the jedi cult....basic question....can we kill the new and improved PUB 9 UBER JEDI.

Considering that even as a Rifleman I can't hit a Jedi, Commando has no chance

Jedi hunting is going to be very tough for Commandos in our current state...Post Combat Balance (depending how it goes for us) we might have a chance, but as the Jedi changes go live...yikes...


As many Commandos know, I've been helping test some of the Jedi Changes...And I've noticed that a key Jedi Strategy is the Dizzy/KD...Just about every Jedi I've seen fightappear to go for aquickKD right out of the gate...something we are highly vunerable too, especially since we spend so much time in Melee Range...and worse yet, a Jedi with the right skill set can KD you from a ranged distance farther then our Flame Specials...


Jedi's also do Lightsaber damage, something our Composite armor doesn't protect against...they have many cone type attacks as well and are faster then us...


The Commando that has a chance against a Jedi is one that has Defense stacked well enough...First Priority is to get Def Vs. KD, Def Vs. Dizzy and Melee/Range Defense up to their peak...


With the right combo of M.Commando / Fencer / Pistoler a Commando can gain:


  • +75 to +105 Def Vs. KD

  • +40 Def Vs. Dizzy

  • +103 Melee Defense

  • +114 Ranged Defense

And still have enought skill points left over for Novice Medic (to try to heal when KD'd)...Beyond those numbers I would HIGHLY suggest getting lootable skill mods to further enhance those skills with an addition +25 of each (remember, the total cap is +125)...


Remember also that with the new Jedi Revamp, we will now be able to become "Force Sensitive" and those skills include addtional Ranged & Melee Defense as well as Boosts...It's possible we could drop skill points elsewhere to bump up our Def. Vs. defenses...


Personally, I might also consider getting Novice Smuggler just so I can use Detonation Droids...those bad boys can be detonated up to 150m away and in their current state, won't damage the user if caught in the blast radius...Jedi can't wear armor so if we can catch them in a damage attack, we may have a chance...


Anyway...thats basically some of the thoughts I've had while testing the new Jedi System...haven't actuall had a chance to have a Commando fight a Jedi yet, but maybe soon...

Devs have already stated BH will be the Jedi hunters. They should be. We are still lost in the shuffle of the revamp. Hopefully we'll see something redeeming in that.

*S* Call me a pessimist and forgive me for going on a tangent, but I'm betting that the Jedi changes will divide the SWG community into three categories:


Jedi

Bounty Hunters

Crafters/Meds/Ents


Now that just anybody can get a Jedi, everybody will be doing it and the glamor of being one with the Force will be completely gone. Nobody but BH's will be able to stand up against them, and thus everyone, including us commandos,will either go Jedi just to survive or drop combat completely. Within six months this game will devolve into Jedi Guild Wars.


I can't believe this game is actually being made to revolve around Jedi. I'd bet anything that adding a "community service" helping-people sort of thing to being a Jedi will cause most of the 12-year-olds to lose interest. If these people want a game where they can run around using their Force skills to beat up on others, I would recommend Jedi Academy, cuz THIS game is about being able to immerse yourself in the Star Wars universe in WHATEVER WAY YOU WANT. And I don't know about you, but being a Jedi has completely lost its appeal for me.

I dont knwo how it will be after teh next publish or after combat reballance but i do fine against jedi now.. Just take that 98 percent anti knockdown food... Jedi light up quick after that.

The FS Skills will help a whole lot... Being able to pick up another 25 ranged and melee defense on top of what professions grant will help a ton. Not tomentionwhat the ranged weapon speed and accuracy skills will do for commandos.

First, it depends on the template of a jedi. Any jedi withmaster saberwill bevery tough to take downas jedi are supposed to be good against ranged attacks (see TH's post on the jedi punchlist). The reason a jedi with master saber is so tough is that they can knock you down at range with a saber throw, then either kite you or close in an repeatedly stick dizzy and knock you down.


One on one, the jedi will win.


5 on one, the commandoes will win. A master commando can take hit a jedi, but they will get knocked down rather easily. However, as long as you get a few dots to stick, it will make the jedi have a really bad day. Your best bet if you want to hunt jedi is to do it in a group, using a mix of professsions that can tank the jedi (master brawler/master melee), those that can keep the group up (doctors, combat medics), and those that do damage (commandoes, bh's)



Ancient weapons and hokey religions are no match for a rocket launcher in your backpack.

Don't forget we have a space expansion coming up It's not all about the Jedi. When JTLS releases ...then we can ask ourselves...what the hell good is a Commando in space? Gunner maybe....?
