I have been reading other posts and seeing what other ppl say and I have narrowed my choices down to 3on what profession I will get that will best compliment Commando defensively.

My Three Choices:

First off, if you have already, download the SWG Prof Calc from bloodfin.org...I love that application for developing my template...

Defense wise, if you want to me a Master Commando, I'd go with M.Commando/ M.TKA

OR...

Master Commando / Fencer 4200 / Pistoleer 0040 at least...

Master Commando + Master TKA will give you great defenses, a KD attack that works well as well as the Meditation tree to heal up your wounds outside of battle...the draw back is that it comes with no ranged attacks that really help against kiters.

Master Commando + Fencer + Pistoleer will give you even better defenses and some ranged attacks, but isn't as offensively strong as Master TKA in my mind...

Both routes will leave you with about 18 skill points remaining to further improve your template...I invested mine into Novice Medic so I could heal during fights just in case...

Neither template I suggested will get you to +125 of any defense (the hard cap limit)....but remember you can further add to your defenses with lootable skill mods...My M.Commando/Fencer/Pistoleer tempate on TC has hit +125 for Melee and Ranged defenses thanks to looted skill mods...

Hope this helps...

Im master commando/master pistoleer/smuggler 0030 and I own TKM/master commando all the time. TKM/commando both have to been in melee range, it really doesnt help u much in PvP unless your in mele range. I just kite the melee guys with no prob. Get us krayt geo and your set.

But I get the feeling they don't care.

Before the Borgle Cave nerf, that was a good place (on Rori...see your POI tab there) to get Skill mods...might be worth checking out (the last 2 boxes in the end of the cave) but last I heard they don't spawn anything good too often anymore...

Also try the Aakuan Cave (On Talus...see your POI tab there)...After clearing the cave I usally get 1 or 2 nice skill mods (plus you have a chance at a +5 Range Def Ring...and you can wear 2 Rings for a total of +10 Ranged Def)...Aakuan's don't seem to like our FlameThrowers much at all (insert evil laugh here)...I typically Cone them to death getting like 6 to 8 in one special (pull them all first, then cone as they chase you)...

Other then that, the really fine Skill Mods seem to come from Dark Jedi in the Force Crystal Caves as well as Nightsisters....but you might want to take a friend as well as get buff'd before taking those on...They both tend to have high heat resists...

Overall, it may take you time to get good looted Defense Skill Mods, but what I did was sell/trade the ones I didn't need on my server's Trade Forum and use the money I got to buy the mods I need from others...There is a big market for Looted Skill Mods, especially ones over +3...

And here is a link to what I consider the best skill mod guide on this forum...a great post to bookmark especially for skill mod hunters to know what works, what doesn't and who specific skill mods are used by....

Yeah Weatoch, stick around here for ling and you'll realize just how helpful Garvin is. He's probably the best Commando Rep. we've had and we've had some good ones.

If you really want to dabble to get the best defences possible and are not worried about anything else try this:

Master Commando, 0/3/0/4 TKA, 2/0/0/0 Fencer, 0/0/4/0 Pistoleer

Gives you:

  • Defence vs. Blind - 50

  • Defence vs. Dizzy - 45

  • Defence vs. KD - 75

  • Defence vs. Posture Down - 50

  • Defence vs. Stun - 55

  • Defensive Acuity - 71 (don't know if this works when using Commando weapons)

  • Combat Equilibrium - 40 (don't know if this works when using Commando weapons)

  • Melee Defence - 136

  • Ranged Defence - 132

  • Melee Mitigation 2

  • Ranged Mitigation 3

Remember while you can't get your ranged and melee defences above 125 using skills, tapes and items can take you 25 points over 125 to a max of 150.

If it wasn't for my desire to remain a smuggler that looks quite tempting, its the best i could find.

Where did you read that? I've heard that the heard cap, even with skill mods, is +125 for Melee and Ranged defenses...even though your skills window will show higher, the cap prevents anything over +125 from being accounted...

If you've heard something different, please let me know...I'll try to verify with the Devs to see what I can find out..

ADDED NOTE: After speaking with some other Correspondents, this may be correct that you can go over the hard cap of +125 via +25 via looted skill mods (some recall something like that being said once)...we are looking for a post from a programmer in our forum a long time back that might confirm/deny this...
