Thread: Word to commandos!
We're broken. We're not halfbad in PvP, but we're worse than we were in PvE/Group work - we actually can get whole groups killed using our Heavy Weapons in PvE. Our grenades are worse than pre-CU...last night I threw a thermal detonator and it hit for 86 damage, another guy gets like 250 damage -- reminds of LOOTED grenades pre-CU, you know? The ones that sucked majorly?
In some ways because of our broken AoE, we actually went down a notch when we thought we only could go up. No word yet on fixes, we (as far as I know) were left out in Publish 17 - we may have gotten silent fixes, but I haven't been able to get on yet. Helios is our only hope, haven't heard from him so he may very well be working on it (or at Fanfest...I've hired multiple people to seak him out! Including an astromech droid with a Holo-recording)
But...in the end: Do not despair! Focus! We are commandos! This isn't new to us...and a good commando is hard to bring down!
The only AOE damage we do is elemental, and that is only IF the burn sticks (15% of the time maybe?).
Our weapons are weak compared to the weapons other professions use. For instance I outdamage my PFT with any of my pistols (I.E. renegade, DL44XT, FWG5, everything except the pitiful Launcher Pistol) I regularly get outdamaged by people using pistols and carbines of other professions. Most notably pistoleers and bounty hunters. (thats not a nerf cry, I'm just saying they use teeny tiny little pistolas, not frikking BOOMSTICKS like we do and they do better AOE damage, with their pea shooters nonetheless.)
Only a couple of our weapons do any type of elemental damage (Plasma Flame thrower, Lightning cannon; both do burn)
We have no specials whatsoever so if you expect to be an effective commando you will need to pick up either BH, Pistoleer, or Smuggler for the Crowd Control/state effects, area attacks/state effects, or crowd control. (In that order)
Our only method for putting states on a target is to switch weapons which is very ineffective since the states usually expire before we can get more than 1 applied. Don't get me wrong, its nice to apply a burn or blindness when it works, but it feels like trying to keep plates spinning on sticks while riding a 12 point buck through a game preserve during the opening week of hunting season
Grenades are FUBAR. 200 second reload timer. Damage that even dwarf nuna's scoff at. Laughable state effects. All those problems are amplified when they are removed from the crate. *sigh*
We have no single target weapons without resorting to another profession. True it is rumored that we do have a "Proton Rifle" which is a single target weapon, however; you must kill a level 92 mob (Grievous) whos quest is broken and disabled currently, the gun is broken and will not fire, and even if it does fire its damage is pathetic (base of 270?!?!?!? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!)
On the positive side The Heavy Particle Beam Cannon and Lightening Cannon have a really cool lightshow that has people ooh-ing and aaah-ing whenever they see it. Well, untill they see the pathetic damage you do with them anyway lol.

EDIT: Yes I did. I forgot to mention I am still having a dang good time and as much as the CU has broken, The game is starting to be fun again. I have high hopes for the fixes that should be getting rolled out daily to alleviate our annoyances. The Dev team was REALLY starting to show promise after they hired the 24 new devs to help beat this game back into shape. Once all the game breaking bugs get fixed, I expect that we will see daily improvements as we were before the CU.

is a new heavy weapons defense of +45 I can solo the AT-ST and take them out in 4-5 shots. ![]()

I too keep high hopes for Commando fixes. I read the new big patch notes with eager anticipation but alas no Commando love as of yet. It would be nice to get a Dev response so we at least know they ARE looking even if they are not in a position to repair us yet. Hopefully once E3 is concluded we will start to see a little more active response from the development team.
Like many I toyed with the idea of dropping Commando but dang it I liked the Commando idea when the game came out, I endured the old "My Launcher Pistol is my only weapon and I can't see a damn thing when I shoot it" days. I think I can survive the post CU cluster frack. The worst part is I see how much potential is there and I keep saying to myself "God if only the AoE at least worked".
One thing you do have to give the people of this profession, except for a few bad apples here and there the Commando players seem to stick together pretty well. We have endured a broken profession for most of the games existance and yet most of us hardcores have kept the Master Commando title. Is it that we are all such gluttons for punishment?
