Hey guys, im new to the whole commando profession and it looks like a lot of fun...i'm just wondering if these templatesare any good, or just your guys' opinions on them. I'm sure you guys get a lot of template questions, and will probably be sick of seeing another lol, but thanks in advance anyways.

Template 1

Master Marksman

Master Commando

Novice Smuggler

Carbineer 0 4 3 0

Pistoleer 0 0 0 4

Rifleman 4 0 0 0

FS Combat Prowess 0 3 0 0 (speed)

General Ranged Accuracy = 240 (295 with Heavy Weapons)

General Ranged Speed = 54 (99 with Heavy Weapons)

Now, this will give me a shortish mez, a root, improved leg and crippling shot, and improved sniper shot.. my main concern is no healing, but im hoping i can just be mainly crowd control with the state effects and just take a power shot every now and then.

Template 2

Master Commando

Novice Smuggler

Pistoleer 0 4 0 4

Carbineer 0 4 3 0

Medic 0 0 4 0

General Ranged Accuracy = 210 (265 with Heavy Weapons)

General Ranged Speed = 30 (75 with Heavy Weapons)

Not so sure on this one, although i think its fairly flexible in group or solo situations.

Template 3

Master Commando

Combat Medic 3 0 0 0

Rifleman 4 0 0 0

Carbineer 0 4 4 0

General Ranged Accuracy = 190 (245 with Heavy Weapons)

General Ranged Speed = 25 (70 with Heavy Weapons)

This one has lower accuracy and speed, but should be more efficient as a solo commando, striking from a distance a sniper shot and stacking more damage on with the legshots and flame dot's if they stick. Has better healing capacity but no state effects other than those from the heavy weapons themselves.

Let me know what you think guys, i'm still not entirely sure which path i want to take, or what i could change to make them more effective.

P.S Sorry for such a long post

You arent helping yourslef by breaking your skills up like that. For one, the first one will only give you a lvl77...this means when in the wild, a LVL80 will beat you hard, and a LVL82 will stomp you like a wet bag. You are getting good accuarcy, but your speed is lacking, and again...defense is bad, no medic and your health is less than 3K. Some temps can get by with no medic, like MCommando/MSmuggler/Pistol4404, but even that would fair better in my opion with pistol 4004 and medic 0010. They get by okay because they have a very high melee/ranged defense and more health than what you ahve in those templates.

Now, that doesn't mean to not play what you want, you should always play what you want to play, but you should keep that stuff in mind as you decide.

Hmmm...so what are decent levels for Ranged/Melee Defence? I can't seem to pull much more than around 120 - 150 for either. Also, which would be a better type to have?I mainly PvE monsters, so i'dassume for my playstyle it would be Melee, but thats mainly for thegrind, i'm not sure how most of the major content plays (DWB, Corvette) but they seem to be mainly Ranged.

A slight revision on one of the templates was this :

Master Commando

Pistoleer 0 4 0 3

then either

Rifleman 4 0 0 0

Carbineer 0 44 0

RangedDefense (1 box) for Ranged/Melee Defense = 145/165

or

Rifleman 4 4 0 0

Carbineer 0 4 0 0

Melee Defense (1 box) Ranged/Melee Defense = 165/150

Both of these bring me up to level 80 (downloaded the newer profession calculator so i could see lmao) and have the core abilities i would like. Does this have a better chance of surviving with stims?

Thanks for the insight too KJ, it's been very helpful

It might be worthwhile to Master another profession, ie Master Commando/Master Carbineer/0404 Pistoleer gives me 240 Melee defense and 210 Ranged defense.

If only we had a few more skill points Thanks again for the input, i had looked at your template earlier StarNick and i do hafta say it sounds pretty nice (was actually the main reason i put any carbineer in at all). Of course i don't just want to 'steal' a template although an effective template is an effective template, and i've yet to ever really try carbineer or commando at all.. oh it's all so confusing lol.

Another question, how helpful is the Deulist Stance? Does it work well with a commando? Not sure what i could do with that, but so far your template is looking to be for the goals i want to achieve (namely helping my group out with decent attacks with cool weapons, and being able to solo missions of my own level)

Thanks again you guys are really helping out, i appreciate it.

Master Commando, Master Pistoleer, Smuggler 4000, Medic0010

General Ranged Accuracy +180
General Ranged Speed +60

Heavy Weapon Accuracy +55
Heavy Weapon Defense +50
Heavy Weapon Speed +45

Melee Defense +175

Pistol Accuracy +40
Pistol Defense +50
Pistol Speed +45

Ranged Defense +140

Thrown Weapon Accuracy +95
Thrown Weapon Speed +40

That is +225 melee defense and +190 Ranged Defense with a hvy wpn or pistol in hand (+25HVY wpn def tapes for +250/+215), and panic/concussion shots to buy time to heal when things get out of hand.

Duelist stance is okay, but runs on a zipper you have to be standing still for, and appears to only affect incoming ranged damage. Usefull, but a lot of SP to get as you have to have scout 4000 and BH 4000 to get it. Anything that has you with 4 novice professions is wasting skillpoints in my opion....and Commando, BH, medic does just that. Some can pull it off, but I just found it to be lacking, and did better against marks with BH/CH.

My template is Master Bounty hunter/ master commando, novice CM. All in all not too bad. Pretty good healing, 250ish ranged and melee defence, duelist stance is good for melee also, lowers damage taken by a lvl 82 crit from 150ish to 80's. I only have one power attack (critical shot) but i have found that using crit shot and ranged shot helps to keep my action up anyway. But to answer your question duelist stance is good with commando but it does take a lot of skill points.
