Thread: What is the issue with the Proton Rifle and modified dps?

Ive been gone for a few months and came back as a commando. I see the changes and will deal with them thats not a mjor problem for me right now.


Problem I do have is the proton rifle I just spent big money on doesnt work at all. Cert'd master commando ok no problem I am master commando. Still doesnt work. Modified dps on the dang thing is lower than the low damage for it. Yeaaaa.

Then you got gipped. When our Proton Rifle was finally fixed, some of the pre-Patch Rifles didn't work or worked with an AoE (suppoused to be single target). You got a pre-patch Proton Rifle, and got the worse kind unfortunately...

Now... heres the thing. You say the proton rifles are supposed to be single target yet they clearly state a 6m AOE. AND... act exactly like a regular commando weapon for AOE damage if you use an AOE sepcial on them. Seems to me to 'fix' it the new ones just basically had their AOE turned off (And the old ones still retain their 'AOE' interestingly enough)


If nothing else thought that's proof that likely all you need to do is contact a CSR to replace your borked rifle or something. Cause it's obviously one the patch didnt fix.


Oh yeah that's the other thing. If proton rifles are now single target and ment to be single target only. Then why the hell do they still have horrifically high SAC etc. More a question for the devs who obviously were too lazy to actually FIX the damn things.

Actually untrue, during the CU Beta when they were moved from Rifleman (Non-AoE) to Commando (which broke it), and after it was fixed for the first time...it was single target, despite the 6 m AoE listing. I was pretty zealous in making sure the Proton Rifle stayed as a commando-only weapon, and a single target weapon as if the majority of our weapons were AoE, we were going to sorely need a non-AoE master level weapon.

Of course I was mistaken thinking that would help the case for the rest of our AoE weapons, with the promise of our damage being equilvent to other professions' and the built in utility bringing us up to damage dealer status, and the fact that the Proton Rifle was pitched as a CU weapon, not a ROTW loot off of Necrosis (not only fairly difficult, but the loot drop rate for the rifle itself is apparently small) proved to all fail, here we are...

The proton rifle was only working on the beta server for a few days (or a week) actually, before breaking again. Im pretty sure a lot of the folks who are set on the idea that the rifle was ment to be AoE, never really tried it before it broke for a second time when the CU launched.

But hey...we could be wrong too, maybe when it was moved from rifleman to commando, it was set to AoE, but it was still turned off when it was fixed for the first time. However, the fact that you can't believe everything you read (ALL our weapons list the 6 m, when only SOME of our weapons are AOE - that was from a Dev, and a while after I heard that the AoE on our RL's was taken off, and the HPBC *seemed* to not do any AoE (or just as it says in the description, where the targets have to be perfectly lined up)), and the fact that the second fix for the rifle wasn't even suppoused to affect older proton rifles...leaves me thinking that it was never intended to be AoE. Ironically, the very fact that older rifles were working with an AoE contradicted the patch notes...

Is there any way to tell before testing out a PR if it will be aoe or not? I would like to get one of each but don't want to buy like 40 of the things to find them.

I put in a ticket over this and was told they would all work once the patch for them was put in lol. I was lucky to find this one on starsider spent 4million for it and its junk. I do see the time I spent away hasnt changed SOE's way of helping people in the game.

Well all I know is I've wound up with one proton rifle that does have an AOE (I've tested this extensively) And one. That doesnt (Also used heavily. Infact as that one has much higher damage. And guildmates yella t me less when I use it. I tend to use my non AOE Proton rifle for most things. And use the AOE oen in PVP)
