Hi, I just recently came back to Galaxies after a 5 months leave. I scrapped my whole template and I'm starting over. So far, I just know I want Master Pistoleer and I'd like Smuggler 4000. I havethree build options:
The first one is Master Pistoleer, Master Commando, Smuggler 4400
The other build is Master Pistoleer, Master Rifleman, Smuggler 4400
The last is Master Pistoleer, Master Smuggler, and whatever I can get into Rifleman.
I would post this in another forum but people would just flame the Commando idea. I'd like to hear what you Commandos have to say about your profession. If I'm going primarily Pistols, would it be worth having a Commando template, I'd primarily be using PFT and before that FT with the Commando part. Would it work out using a FT a few times then finishing off with a pistol and on single targets pulling with Rocket or another non-AoE Commando weapon and then using Pistol? I must admit, I like the fact that if I do go Commando, I would be the first one I have seen on Gorath. Thank you for your input in my future build, help will be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have more time to kill, could you talk to me about well you PvP and group? I've read a lot, but I still want to know more.Thank you.

Commando would work well with pistoleer/smuggler due to the fact that innate AoE on our weapons will root everyone in the weapon's cone when used with a rooting special. The same applies to KD, snare, all that stuff.
We're not exactly the huge damage dealer the CU docs said we would be... but I still have a hell of alot of fun with commando

Thanks for your comment. I've now narrowed it down to two:
Master Pistols, Master Commando, Smuggler 4404
Master Pistols, Master Rifleman, Smuggler 4400
I'm becoming more inclined to be a Commando though. Still thinking about it. Anyone else with input is very much welcome to comment.
*Edit* Also, can someone tell me a high level non-AoE, non-consumable weapon that Commandos have? I'll be grouping a lot and I need something that will do more damage than my pistols, but that won't aggro everything and I'd prefer one that doesn't need ammo fed to it. *Edit*

Commando also has kickass weapon animations. And the Proton Rifle is a non-AoE master commando cert

Correction, newly looted Proton Rifles are non-AOE. There are probably plenty of older ones with the broken AOE still out there so be careful buying one, have it tested first. Anyways Commando really shines in mass PvP and AOe groups and here's why.
AOE blind, AOE intimidate, AOE dizzy, AOE stun, AOE KD (fanshot+RL or underhanded/charge shot w/any weapon), AOE concussion shot, AOE fire DoTs (if you flame a whole group, some are bound to catch fire), AOE low blow (reduce combat speed of a whole group), no limit to number of AOE targets as long as their in your cone of pain!
Since Commandos don't have a lot of damage (no damage special) we're not going to hit as hard as a Rifleman, but our weapons do pack a punch albiet at a higher cost. Give it a try and make good friends with a weaponsmith. Commandos are nothing without their weapons so this is very important. Welcome to Commando.

Thank you for the help, one more question though. Does a Proton Rifle consume ammo? Since I group a lot with my clan, I don't make much money when I'm leveling, and I don't want to pull more than what the tank can handle. If there are weapons that are 40 or more range, non-AoE, and non-Consumable, I'm sold on Commando. Hopefully theres two. Of course I will use the AoE later on, but for now I'd rather not. Thanks for all the help. You guys are definitely the nicest of the professions.

I think that MPistoleer/MCommando/Smuggler 4-0-4-4 would be a better option in my opinion. Unless you really work hard at slicing, the income is just not there. With the template above, you have all the pistoleer specials and 90% of the smuggler specials along with Feign Death which has saved my butt on more than one occasion.
My current template is MBH/MC/Smuggler 0-0-4-0 and it has worked well for me.

Withouta weapon thatis 40 or more range, non-AoE, and non-Consumable, I probably won't go Commando, which is why I asked if there are any. If i find out there is a weapon that fits that category, then I'll see about whatI might/might notchange in Smuggler. Truthfully I wanted the slicing for helping out my clan, but I'd really like to know about the weapons right now, so I can make a decision on it.

there are no consumable weapons left in commando (excluding grenades) If you go loot a proton carbine from necrosis yourself, it'll be a 65m range, non-aoe weapon. If you buy it, there's a chance it might be AoE or not work at all. The patch that fixed them only fixed newly looted ones.

Newly looted Proton Rifles (from Necrosis) are non-AOE 65m range lvl 54 weapons.
The Heavy Particle Beam Cannon might as well be a 40m range non-AOE weapon (The AOE is supposed to be in a straight line but lining up mobs seems impossible)
The Rocket Launcher also has a broken AOE and is a 65m range weapon with KD
The Corellian Destroyer is rumored to be non-AOE (I've not seen one so I wouldn't know).
The Proton Rifle is the only CL54 weapon out of all of these. I think the RL is 22, the Beam Cannon is 40?, and the Corellian Destoyer is 30? So the only one that will deal a good amount of damage will be the Proton Rifle.

Oh yeah, almost forgot the Heavy Acid Rifle CL 22 Acid Weapons I required. The AOE on it is broken too, but it blinds you and your target regularly lol
Also, confirm our only expendables are grenades, nothing else uses ammo.

Nothing else uses ammo anymore? Wow, yea then I'm goin Commando
. Thanks so much for everyone's help, I really appreciate it. Once I grind a few more boxes in my pistoleer I'll get Commando and put my name in that post as one of the few and proud
