2. What kind of special gear is there for commando that enhances your skills/dmg etc?

1) Either get MP and use the LP...or struggle to Flame I and use the flamethrower to achieve master

2) All known skill tapes for commandos are currently broken as they're not one hvy weapon pool anymore (like they were in beta)

Demo belt...havent seen it yet..doubt its for us

The easiest way to master for me was to grind through flamethrower boxes first. Once you hit flame4, the rest should be cake. FlameSingle2 really does a ton of damage. Second was the Heavy weapons column, and then Acid rifle. Flamer is almost always weapon of choice and the best available option for commando.

There's not really much else to help, as a TKM it'll be easier because you already have Melee Damage Mitigation, but no other ranged powerups or anything else can be used on Heavy Weapons.

Demo Belt has "Thrown Weapon Accuracy +3". Thrown Weapon... SEAs are the working Commando ones. So that's a yes to 2 and 3.

I didn't really have a problem getting through the flamethrowers tree. I grabbeda tank (either my rancor or my gaping spider hunter) and went to Endor. I ran around and killed everything in sight. I was getting 2-4 k xp a creature. It went way fast.
