Hi! Newbie weaponsmith here. I am in process of collecting materials for some killer flamethrowers (not master yet, so I got awhile). My question is, is there any special materials I can collect to really make these kick butt? I have krayt tissues, but is there anything else? And for that matter, can I use the krayt tissue in them anyway?

Thanx folks

Yes there is a lot you can do to make the "best" flamethrowers.

1st: Regarding Krayt tissues - Oh yeah, they'll help. However, keep in mind that the damage on these weapons are already pretty high, so they might not have as great an effect as you would anticipate (or like These are the only type of enhancement you can add for a flamethrower. Also, you need these in sets of 5 (with the same serial number). 1 for the schematic and 4 for the actual *Advanced* Blaster Power Handlers (Don't use normal Blaster Power Handlers cuz they suck).

2nd: See Blaster Power Handler note above

3rd: You might as well use a regular Blaster Rifle Barrel, since Advanced Blaster Rifle barrels suck by comparison. Sure they get slightly better damage, but on a weapon like a flamethrower this will not have that great an effect. However, regular Blaster Rifle Barrels have better speed (and thus will give a much better DPS stat).

4th: Assuming you're not going for a low or decent HAM (ie: you don't care if the weapon kills the commando anytime they spam a special) add an Advanced Weapon Stock (A good one).

5th: Get the following resources with the highest stats you can for the Advanced Blaster Power Handlers:
Diatium Copper 66CD 33OQ
Irolunn Reactive Gas 100OQ
Ostrine Carbonate Ore 100OQ
Phrik Aluminum 66CD 33 OQ
Polymer 100OQ

6th: Get the following resources with the highest stats you can for the Blaster Rifle Barrels:
Crystalline Gemstone 100SR
Metal (yes any metal) 66CD 33SR

7th: Get the following resources with the highest stats you can for the Advanced Weapon Stock:
Corellian Deciduous Wood 100SR
Link-steel Aluminum 100SR

8th: Get the following resources with the highest stats you can for the actual Flamethrower:
Iron 50CD 50OQ
Metal 50CD 50OQ
Steel 50CD 50OQ
Liquid Petrochem Fuel 100OQ

9th: Get Master Weaponsmith so you can actually make Flamethrowers

10th: Get +20 worth of Skill Enhancing Attachments for Weapon Experimentation so you can get the most out of your experiments (good luck).

11th: Get +20 worth of Skill Enhancing Attachements for Weapon Assembly so that you're less likely to get a critical failure or anything below great success when assembling your Krayt enhanced versions.

12th: Do all of your assembly in a city with Manufacturing Specialization so that you get a bonus to assembly (see 11) and a bonus to experimentation rolls (this will make less than great successes less likely when experimenting).

13th: Only spend 3 experimentation points (or less) at a time when experimenting. I've heard that the 4th point only adds +3% instead of +7%.

14th: Practice making lots of Advanced Blaster Power Handlers and Flamethrowers before making the Krayt versions. Apparently, if you're experimentation roll lands on a certain number (different for each weapon) they likely hood of a less than great success on the next experimentation roll is high. Figure out the most successful way to experiment for this weapon (ie: 3 2 3 3 or 2 3 1 3 1).

Finally, if you don't understand all of this, that's okay - focus on 5 through 9 for now, and worry about the others as you get close to Master.

Good luck! It's a long and very slow road to Master....

I'm planning on only taking the flame line, to compliment master creature handler, Now I'm not sure whether to go with a speed sliced flamethrower(480ish-850ish, 3.5ish speed), or a damage sliced flamer(600ish-1200ish, 5.0ish speed)? Apreciate your incite here.

Personally, I'd go for the speed. Flamethrowers are already a slow weapon but it does get alot better at FT4. Faster FTs, IMO, allow me to follow up with another attack or another special like flamesingle2.

One thing I need to ask: Will flame DOTs stack? If I use flamesingle2, 1, then flamecone1, are there seperate DOTs for each adding to a big DOT damage?

definately go with speed slicing. i bought a crate of higher end FTs and got them all sliced. 2 were for speed. one was 19% and the other ws 31%.

i tracked out my damage per second with using flamesingle2 with the highest damage sliced FT (24%) and the speed sliced one. the speed slice is definately the way to go. i do more damage per second and i can finish my que of specials quicker so that my heal comes up without me having to dump my que to prevent dying.

go buy a minimum of 5 FTs and slice them all. if you dont get a speed slice above 25%, go buy more and put the others on a bazaar for 6k.

if you are jedi and you complain, i have one question for you. how many remember permadeth, kenetic damage lightsabers, and lightsaber TEFs?

Yeah, but does the extra 1.5 on speed make it THAT much faster for specials, I woulden't even begin to try and calculate which has better DPS. Maybe Ill just buy both, heh.

Okay I will try that.

Actually on seconds thoughts, I can't afford that, the unsliced flamethrowers are going for 20k a piece, for just a bit more I could take one of these pre-sliced I mentioned, can you just tell me which of those two would yield higher DPS please. It'd make my life much easier! Thanks.

After the Flame DoT nerf i posted a big long post comparing both High speed (34%) and High Damage (44%) sliced flamers... you can dig it up in this forum if you like, Its posted under the name TalyusGohrann

The higher slice you get, the greater difference in damage you'll get. It depends on what your killing. If you can afford to own a speed *and* a damage, do that.

Off the top of my head:

a 3.0 speed/4xx-8xx damageflamer (sliced down from 4.5) will fire flamesingle2 every 7 seconds for aprox 8,000 damage in the combat window

a 4.5 speed/615-1180 flamer (slicedup damage) will fire flamesingle2 every 10 seconds for aprox 14-18,000 damage in the combat window.

After doing some slicing experiments (my commando is also a master smuggler) of 150 flamers (dont ask), the high end slices come up about 1 every 15 (average), so getting one is dumb luck (stupid random slicing).

As you can see, the delta (difference) in DPS is rather significant the longer you go.

IMHO, i would suggest a high damage slice is the way to go. *BUT* it really depends on (A) what you kill and (B) what your slice % is. If you get a low speed or damage slice, go with the speed.

Thank you, very in depth answer, of course it's AFTER I bought the speed sliced one... DOH.

if you get a good speed slice that is definitely the way to go for overall DPS. I have run many calculations on all weapons using some good combat simulator programs out there. The exception to this is if you can 1-shot acreature using the damaged slice flamer, wheras the speed sliced one may take more than one hit. Depends on what you are hunting and whether or not you miss.

I just started commando and I'm having a blast literally

Anyway I have some old pre nerfed Flamethrowers, and I've come to notice that they tend to decay pretty quick when used. Is this normal for flamethrowers that aren't prenerfed (the new ones) Was this fixed because its quite annoying. I play one night and it pretty much goes down about 500%.

Also what's the going rate for a new flamethrower? I've seen them for 200k but I think that's kind of steep.
