General Observations

I'll be mastering commando tonight, just because I wanted to try it out and watch the explosion animations. I like the flame thrower, but ittakes up too many skill points to use one fun weapon. I actually enjoy being a commando, but its crippling in that you only have enough skill points for one other profession.

As an "elite" profession, along with bounty hunter, we should be at least roughly equal to the melee dabblers, or have some sort of fun profession-based quest that serves as a reward for giving up combat ability.

Other than the skill points, my only complaint is that the loot is non-existant. Every other profession gets the fun of finding good weapons, schematics, and skill tapes. With commando, you just get some spider fangs and make launcher pistols, thenpurchase a crate of10 FT's and try for a speed slice in the 3.5 range.

That heavy acid rifle is a joke, my goodness. The only time I ever use it is when I'm hunting with new kids, just so I don't kill everything in one hit. What's up with that one whimpy green bolt when it fires?

Skill Trees

If I was in charge of redo'ing commando, I would do the following:

Get rid of grenades totally, they're boring. It doesn't take any skill in real life to use a grenade, you just have to throw it.

Keep the heavy support weapons, thats a cool idea. They're not good all the time, but nice for "special occasions".

Merge FT and HAR trees into one category. Move acid/flamesingle2 qualification to master commando.

Make an assaultweapon tree, and put the launcher pistol in there. Add in another weapon certification at Master commando for an assault rifle. The pistoleers have the DE-10, which is really cool. We need a master-level weapon.

Have a commando experience tree where you get special points for blowingup bases, safeguarding npc supply caravans, attacking elite units of soldiers, escape from a POW camp, liberating POW's,hijacking atst's/tanks/vehiclesand being able to use them for a short time, doing mercenary work for the various planetary factions, and leading other players in battle (like a lesser version of squad leader)

In the same way that it is an accomplishment to be a master bounty hunter, it should be an accomplishment to be a commando. Even though the investigation missions are often broken, the player still has a sense of "being" a bounty hunter by the time they get there. I've just been running around lighting the little biz natches on fire (which is cool, but not very immersive).

Finally, I have to say that the commando correspondant and the community are some of the coolest folks in the game. People here actually care about the profession and try hard to make it fun instead of just overpowered. Many of the stuff above is a combination of good ideas other people have already had on here - this was my attempt to combine all the ideas I liked best, and throw in a couple of my own.

Good ideas, but I'd take issue w/ getting rid of Grenades. Grenades are an issue that would be an easy fix( fix Range, HAM Cost, Damage to Thrower ) that could really make a difference to us.

From what i hear you would be surprised how many new recruits throw the pin and hold the grenade upon their first experience. That is why there is always someone that stands next to them to take the grenade out of their hands.

At any rate, grenades could be a very very useful weapon for us. If the damage was increased as well as state changes added people would use them a lot more.

My personal problem is with the heavy weapons themselves. i am going to do some research tonight with some newly purchases RLs. (7.2 spd and almost 4k dmg unsliced) DPS is the name of the game right now. It doesnt matter how heavy the weapon is, if something can domore damage faster, then it is obsolete.
