Thread: Brawler + Marksman = Commando.... Why?

If anything, I think they should have made the scout trapping line instead of brawler the pre-req for commando. After all, the traps are the closest thing to the grenade line in commando. Not many people actually use the brawler line unless they go commando + TKA. Other than that combo (possibly for KD's), people will never swap out of a flamer for bare fists (no VK's now either).

I realize this isn't the 'real' world. But IN the 'real' world basic hand to hand combat training is part of the training soldiers get in Basic Training and AICT. The exploration tree of scout would actually fit more into a Commando pre-req than trapping because terrain negotiation and navigation are also apart of the 'soldierization' process.

I've often thought that, but you have to consider weapons like the Flamethrower and Heavy Acid rifle are actually Long-Range-Melee weapons, and to get a chance to pull off your Specials with these you need to be close, so in actual fact it makes sense that we get melee defense mods in the pre-req's.

I think exploration would fit better, but maybe that's just me being biased wishing we had the Terrain Negotiation...

Its not even slightly intelligent to compare this game to the real world, so please don't bring that up.

My question is more in regards to that brawling has no extended use into the commando tree. In fact, it doesn't in smuggler either.I wouldn't mind the exploration and trapping lines be made a pre-req for commando, but making people take brawler for the unarmed line that will NEVER be used unless you are also planning on being a TKA, is kind of annoying.

Yes, we get an amazing +2 melee defense in the entire unarmed tree.

Hey I never said it was good, just that that will probably be the Devs Reasoning behind it, we are mainly Melee in general, but Ranged in Style.

There is the topic being discussed that since the flamethrower and HaR are being seen by the game as melee weapons that perhaps it is also as designed.

Hard to believe, but a possibility.

If the Devs HAD compared some aspects of this game to the real world, they MIGHT have gotten our profession right the first time. Instead of going on the belief that a person needs to be at 0m to use a Rocket Launcher or Flame Thrower effectively. You must still be waiting for the 'POP' because whether you like it or not many aspects of this game (as well as the movies)WERE infact taken from the real world.

Brawling never being usedonce you hitcommando could easily be fixed by adding 2-3 unarmed specials to the Field Tactics ladder and by giving a cert for Vibro Knucklers.

The one problem I have with the prereq's is that its worthless. We don't use any unarmed at all, on top of that the brawler tree is worthless unless you specialize in unarmed. So the only option in that tree for us to piggyback on is Teras Kasi. Anyone who takes some scout can easy jump into a lot more professions than just 1. To me the unarmed tree is just a big waste of points, especialy the initial 15.
