Thread: Does any other commando feel helpless when hunting creatures
Well I personally go solo hunting on Dantooine and Dathomir. I just use my atst as a meat shield and wail away at a safe distance with my flamethrower. Although, this would only work if you're Imperial and from reading your post it seems that this is not the case.
So just switch up your weapons. Granted the acid rifle and launcher pistol don't dish out the damage as much as the flamethrower, but they give you something else to use. I only rarely see creatures that have high resistances to heat, acid, and blast. You just have to be flexible. Good luck!
I never have a problem, and I am a relatively new Commando at 1-0-2-0. I have taken down everything that comes at me, excluding the Kimogilas that attack on Lok from time to time. They like to warp. Wut i do is fire with my launcher pistol a Healthshot1 and Healthshot2, then i fire away with Warningshot to get the creature running away. I follow behind the scared creature, not firing, and wait till it stops to turn around. At that point, I fire Suppressionfire, then run in and do a Flameshot1 on the beast. Usually this hits for 5000 damage or so, and bleeds the beat for a little less than 2000 per turn. This is when i run away fast. I switch back to the launcher and just keep doing the yo-yo game until the creature is dead.
Just an example. I went to Dathomir yesterday to hunt Rancors. Found one alone without a pack and used my method to kill it. I managed to get a Healthshot1, Healthshot2, Flameshot1, and Flamecone onto the Rancor before it died. If you do it right, you can solo just about anything, with exception to the warping creatures like Kimos. I wish I could kill those...
even if the critter is 100% heat resistance just hit them with a special and watch them die from the dot, the dot is 1/3 of the damage it deal before the resistance. soo you won't do any damage on the initial hits, but they still take alot damage from dots.
As stated by others, the burn dot is unaffected by resists currently.
Use that to your advantage. If you truly feel like a 5th wheel, and dislike expending the cash on charged weapons or grenades, flame them then switch to a carbine or pistol via marksmen cert. The combination of burn damage plus the nominal weapon damage will easily make you a productive group member.
I, however, second the suggestion of using expendable weapons or grenades. you'll do a signifigant amount of damage quiet quickly.
