Well i have to admite that u have a good point Raptor, the flamethrower is an anti infantry weapon, but like a tank mounted machine gun it would do very little against a single quick foot soldier. Thats where commando comes in, commandos, in a pvp situation, are a support unit. A good general would never send in a tank in by itself, why? It would be overrun by smaller, faster units.

When they galactic war revamp comes along, then we will be useful in pvp. Our skills cannot be used in a run in and shoot everything manner. Our skills are meant to be used with a tactical plan involving other units. On the battle field, in a large group, a commando would be of unmeasurebale help, but alone he'll get swamped. So instead of think of ways to fix what we have, think of ways to implement the useful aspects of our skill

Sauron, everyone has a right to their opinion...no matter how misguided...but, err...dont rename the Message Subject "RETARD" when a commando gets fed up with how bad off our proffession is...regardless of what you said, as soon as you typed those words you lost every ounce of respect you could ever get from this community.

And on my opinion regarding yours, I can see some of the 92 sp elite proffessions being very good in PvE (we already got em..they're the "tankers" aka melee proffessions..unfortunately atm, nearly all of them are also extremely good on the offensive)....it is misguided saying that the devs intended a 169 sp proffession to be good in PvE only (btw for your info..we SUCK at PvE - mainly High end PvE, using solely our commando skills...ive experienced this as I was a "Pure Commando" for over 8 months [3 months ago i finally accepted and went TKA >_<])

It is also misguided saying that the devs intended us to be solely PvE...especially as for many months the devs have repeatedly told us to wait for the CB..and have said that the CB will have the most impact on COMMANDO...hence, atm everything in our proffession is potentially not working as intended.

If you believe that we're working as intended, you are obviously misguided or have no common sense at all...just the CB proves that huge changes that will help/fix our proffession are coming...and by using common sense to see many quirks that are illogical in our proffession supports the original poster's reasoning (which is also the community's gripes about commando essentially)...just take a look at our Launcher Pistol...take a look at our gernades tree [barely anyone uses this in PvP or PvE...just to grind combat xp]...take a look at our defenses...[Look...devs said BH's are getting increase of defenses...most likely we may too]...if you look closely, there are so many things that are out of whack...maybe not if we were a 92 skill point proffession, but we are a hybrid that takes nearly twice that amount...quite obviously you have not taken a closer look at our proffession and question the devs, rather taking commando at face value.

We are on the verge of a groundbreaking change to our proffession..and possibably a revamp afterwards....at least for the first, the devs say with confidence that our long wait for our proffession will be answered...and if they are, commando will be changed radically and may be unrecognizable from what it is now - dont accept the current state of affairs as fact. To me thats ignorance.

Commando will never be a PVP profession. Stop whinning. Take TKA like the rest of us if you want pvp. PVE is what we do. We burn animals. I admit that commando needs to be fixed, but not to do pvp. We should be pve powerhouses, not pvp'ers. Not even alittle.

"A fearsome foe upon the battle field, adept at taking out heavy targets and armored vehicles"

Um... where are the armored vehicles? The X-34 Landspeeder? A speederbike? And what is a 'heavy target'? A 500lb. Quenker... or someone in 90% composite armor (of the two, I'd probably lean towards the latter).

I do agree that Commandos can't be the perfect PvP AND PvE... but quoting that statement to help support your arguement wasn't the brightest thing I've seen...

Also, non-technically speaking too...

Dark Forces - Kyle was a commando...and was a One-man army

Thats a "Hero" Commando, and shouldnt be taken at face value as a template for our proffession...but the "sw commando" is similar to kyle...storm commandos from the empire for instance were feared...SW commandos in general were feared and were used for special operations on both sides...this is not fighting against lions..but fighting against each other in a GCW

Nogihiri (spellcheck) Death Commandos were a valuable asset in assasination and covert operations for the Imperials...this did not constitute fighting durni and tortons, but other sentitnent beings. Atm the SWG commando is totally unlike the SW commando, and that needs to be changed.

Essentially, commandos...are a big part in any war fought today...they were a big part in the galactic civil war...SWG is about the SW universe and the GCW...why the hell should we have a different role/purpose here?

Yes. The 30 shot weapon that costs 50k, has to be ordered a week in advance and only hits in PVP about 1 in 3 times.

Okay, guys,

Part of this is starting to turn into a flame war (no pun intended, not that the flame DoT is useful in PvP at the moment, anyway :-P ).We all need to settle down a bit on this one.

Anyway,I don't usually post on the boards, but I'm going to put in my two cred here:

First, to address the "Commandos were only intended for PvE" comment, I'd like to post the definition of commando as stated by my trusty dictionary:

"Com*man*do (ke-man'do) n. pl. -dos or -does. A member of a military unit specially trained to make quick raids. [Afr kommando, ult. < LLat commandare, to command.]"

Now, last time I checked military units aren't recruited to raid animal lairs and the like. The very word "commando" indicates they participate in attacks against other military or paramilitary units, so if the Devs picked this as the profession name, then they were intended to be useful in PvP.

A little history here:

At one point, after they "fixed" commando the first time, commandos were extremely effective in PvP. At that time I was master commando and LOVED it. I bought this game to participate in PvP, for the chance to match the skills I've worked hard to acquire against the skills of other players (while not being limited to only combat, such as you are in first-person shooters). I don't know how things worked on the other servers, but back in the day on Shadowfire, before player cities came out, mass groups of Imperials from Bestine would constantly raid Anchorhead. Since I lived nearby, I was usually there to participate in the fight...and I can tell you for certain that commandos certainly were NOT slackers when fighting other players. Sure, we didn't have much in the way of defense, but our offense was extremely effective. I can recall dozens of times when I pointed my flamer at an unarmored target and incapped them with one pull of the trigger, or fired at an armored target and watched the DoT do what the initial hit could not. Now, I realize that this was overpowered, but it wasn't cause to nerf the flame DoT as far as they did, to the point where it was useless in PvP. And yes, we still had particle cannons and rocket launchers, but these were, by and large, extremely hard to acquire and notoriously inaccurate. Still, I might've kept commando after the DoT nerf if rocket launchers had been more widely available, sincethe inaccuracy could usually be gotten around by kneeling or laying down while shooting to provide greater accuracy. This latter tactic was not effective in PvP against a single opponent due to the ranges involved (most combat happens within 30m), but could be extremely effective in mass combat where I could at least play the part of a support unit (and an effective one at that!). Unfortunately, due to the difficulty in acquiring such weapons (there was a point where you couldn't buy a rocket launcher on Shadowfire for less than 150k...IF you could find one at all - the weaponsmiths refused to make them), this was not possible.

So, for all of you commandos who picked up the profession after the flame DoT nerf, I can see why you could think commando is intended for PvE. But, by the definition of "commando" and the previous patch that made commando a viable profession, it can be seen commandos are meant to be an effective PvP class as well.

Anyway, I'm not really awake yet, so I'll apologize if my post rambles on or goes off on tangents, but I just really needed to point out that commandos were not intended solely for PvE and have been, in the past, an effective PvP class and hopefully will be again. If the latter, I'll drop my current innefective build (after changing professions twice, I got sick of having to keep up with FotM to be effective in PvP and gave up on it) and go back to commando.

Raptor, a lot more could be said about that statement. But he obviusly dont know what he talks about. Why bother.

We got launchers that kill us, grenades that kill everything but the target and HAR ment to be FT clone that aint half as good leaving us with no viable weapons with AP. (Not that the HAR got AP either.... )

State of the Commando proffession is: We got one option; theFT, and only reason to be a Master is the accuracy bonus to it. the 3 other skill trees are useless except ranged dmg mitigation.

We need a grenade, launcher/ beam revamp and... get some useful weapon instead of that friggen HAR or atleast make it an option. And we need AP. Working weapons with AP. Even if a dev say (as they said) " you got RL's with heavy AP" They 1st: need to be worked on so they are useful, 2nd give all commandos a few mills so we can keep buy them when we need them.
