I have been trying out a lot of professions, and I have found few that I liked. I am considering commando. I am a big PVP fan and I know commando is not to great in the area of PVP. But I hear that it it great in PVE (from you StarNick aka Stern, hehe it's Fabeon) so I am wondering if commando would be worth mastering for soloing high level mobs: krayts, GDKs, ect. I also am planning on doing the FS quests. Any advice would be great!! I would ask you in-game Stern, but Chilastra is down

Its only good in PvE if used with TKA skills...or at least another prof that gives quitea bit defenses. As for good in PvE...thats really only our dot, stacking 4 on a mob...great for dungeon/corvette raids, but no loot rights/xp for the commando....so needless to say, we're necessary to take on some high lvl mobs, but we're like 2nd class citizens on dmg, ap, loot, and everything else....(DoTs make it easier for everyone else, but gives NOTHING back to the commando)

Soloing krayts...not anymore...GDKs I think so, i know some DK's were soloed by evelas...maybe even a GDK....but for krayt hunts, commando is useful. Theres a difference between us and the king of PvE - Swordsman....Swordsmen do huge amounts of dmg, kinetic or blast...and do it with AP...I hear RL's are good vs Krayts, but swordsmen with AP 2 and Blast dmg creams that weapon. Again it comes down to our DoTs as they bypass armour, and makes life easier for everyone. If you want to solo even mid-range mobs, its best to take up TKA....

Lol forget it...our cap is 3.2k xp per kill....non-commandos get 5.2k xp per kill. Grinding the FS quests all the way to jedi from scratch for commandos = about 12,404 mobs to kill (max xp)...thats about 2,068 Mokk missions...or about 46 buff runs if you can get 45 missions per buff
For non-commandos...that number is around 7,368mobs to kill (again max xp)...thats about 1,228 mokk missions...or about 28 buff runs if you can get 45 missions per buff
Thats a fairly significant difference...both amount to grind as well as time wise...138 hours opposed to 84 hours.
So not only do Ranged spd/acc FS bonuses not applying to our HW weapons (it seems the melee mods are tho), as well as being a 1 trick pony we too even are gimped in the FS quest grinds....
But if you want to go commando, by all means....pretty soon hopefully we'll be getting the love we've been requring since beta...

We do very well on normal mobs - example: Mokks. Roast the entire group in a few seconds flat, blow up the lair, and run off with your 40k reward, all in under a minute or two. Money is rarely an issue for my commando.
But for the big mobs (krayts and such) we arent all that great due to our lack of AP on the flamethrower and high heat resists on some of the larger mobs. Our defenses suck as well, but that can be fixed easily enough with some pistoleer or TKM skills. If you decide to do TKM+Master Commando and put your flamethrower away after you try and stack DoTs on your target though you should do well using TKM only skills.
As for the FS quests, master commandos can generate large of amounts of experience very quickly.

Will any melee prof go well with commando, or is TKM best? I want a PVP prof along with it, but if I can't do that may as well do TKM. Oh and thanks for the help
