unfortunately SWG is dead to me.

I dont know much the developers can do to make it fun again.

even if the entire combat was revamped and it was a true MMO again.

Im going to respectfully disagree with you here - buffs do not destroy any chance of a commando being badass at the moment. In my opinion, they only exacerbate existing problems with our profession of choice. If some of our base shortcomings and problems were addressed, buffs would not be an issue for us.

Examples:
Armor Piercing, or rather the lack of it on the flamethrower. If the FT had at least AP1 a lot of our problems would be solved.
Targetted pool attacks. We cannot target a single pool on our target, ie no health shot, no action shot, no mind shot, no scatter shot. Our attacks are random, and that hurts us badly in pvp.
Lack of defenses (as you wrote above).
Lack of accuracy.
Short range on our specials. Some guy with a stick has more reach than our flamethrower which forces us into melee range, in turn eliminating any advantages a ranged profession has.
And the list goes on, but its been said before so I wont go into any more detail.

Instead of nerfing buffs, perhaps the devs could improve our skills a bit to make us competitive.

LUUKE' SKY-w'ALKER is (was? havent seen him in a while) a real person on Kettemoor, along with 50 billion other characters with leet-dood speak mixed case variants of the original starwars names. A lot of them speak like that too, which is sad because Kettemoor is supposed to be the roleplaying server. Nothing like trying to RP when someone named LUUKE' SKY-w'ALKER comes up to you and starts begging for credits in mixed case sms-speak.

My personal favorites were Chewbaccarat (variation on Burt Baccarat) the Entertainer, Gweedo, and Princes' Lay-me.
