Ha, someone posted that link months ago, and I've had it bookmarked ever since.
I'm seriously considering attempting to build one.

Firstly...its the CURB - Combat Upgrade/Revamp/Balance. Get it right!!
Secondly, one of my friends made a small flamethrower IRL once. Had a wooden stock (tube was metal), and used one of those long lighters (for BBQ's and fireplaces). Needless to say, it worked...but also he had to put out fire on the weapon itself.

Um........I strongly urg no one to do it. I see way to many possiblities for a very bad situation. Beside the fact its most like against the law to own and make one.
But if you just use it for a water gun, cool, but no way in hell will i make the flame thrower. I love myself to much to put my life and body in risk. Way to many people have been hurt for doing similar things.
Oh, and in WWII, many many solders lost their lives as human torches because the tank on their back exploded. Yes, by bullets but all it takes is one error in planning and so can you.

True, but I have a friend who is slightly more insane than meand has been pushing me to build it, or at least help him build one.
I'd have him test-fire it.
Hell, I don't think I'll have to make him do it; I'm pretty sure he'd volunteer for it.

with a little bit of creativity, you can use a similar system to make a potato gun.
while the flamer is visually impressive, there is more satisfaction to be found in dropping potatos on some unsuspecting victim 500 feet away. give that a try.

Accually, to make a potato launcher, take a PVC pipe about the diameter of a potato, a PVC stopper for the pipe(not sure what it's called, but who cares you get the idea

Heh...have Carl the Squirrel test it!
The friend i mentioned above found this dead squirrel last summer...a leg was missing and its entails were gushing out. He poured lighter fluid and made the Carl into a fireball...
Last time he "played" with Carl was when he slingshotted a flaming Squirrel (wrapped tinfoil, put it in a slingshot, set it on fire)...and it landed in the back of a moving pickup truck.
Yes...this is the insanity one must have to build a flamethrower.

thats a really simple one.
ive build a few of varying scales that incorperate a butane/oxygen mixing system, re-enforced breaches and extended barrels for long range accuracy.
the one currently in my workshop is an attempt to exchange piezoelectricity for something a little more reliable. ive successfully wired multiple sparkplugs into my breach, and through the use of a magneto and flywheel, can make them fire. im trying to compact the system now so its portable enough for quick fire and reload.

Now what is really fun is making a coilgun. I've see one that is smaller than most pistols in RL, and it can hit fairly hard for a 9V battery.
And yeah, that is a simple Potato launcher, but fun for the people who don't know what your talking about
