As the title says, anyone have a guide to building a great LP?

The guys in the weaponsmith forums might have some very specific ideas on this, it's what they do.
Other than that.... if you don't want to shell out millions of credits to acquire items like gorax components, there are alternatives. Nym faction will on occassion drop feed mechanism enhancements. These can add a fair amount of damage output to the Launcher Pistol, and are dropped in many cases as identical multiples, soa factory run could be made for less than the price of a single weapon made with the expensive stuff. Considering the final damage output is completely dependent on getting a good slice, the ability to bring 5 to 7 pistols to a master smuggler greatly increases the odds of a 30%+ damage increase in at least one of those pistols.
Other than that, using a well established weaponsmith with a good reputation for quality product (assuming you are not a weaponsmith with stacks of high quality resources) will of course help matters tremendously, as final stats depend largely upon the resources used. 12/12 point smiths are great, when they can be found, and are willing to take on custom orders, but a 10 point smith can get max damage out of any weapon with the right materials. Bear in mind though, that assembly bonuses become much more important when using specialized components. Even 12 pointers on brandy enhancement (food assembly bonus variety, not the mind enhancer) and help from FS crafting trees can fail, so bringing extra lots of looted component enhancements always helps when this ispossible.
So, here's the list of items needed, and what is important in each case.
Launcher Pistol:
66 units of Iron
22 uinits of Ferrous Metal
10 units of Metal
Conductivity, and Overall Quality are the important stats here. Expect the iron to be poor in the conductivity department. Good OQ is definately possible though.
Also
Advanced Projectile Feed Mechanism
20 units of Quadranium Steel
12 units of Axidite Iron
Both of these should have high Unit Toughness stats.
And...
Advanced Projectile Pistol Barrel
29 units of Duralloy Steel
17 units of Plumbum Iron
Heat Resistance and Shock resistance are equaly imporatant in this part.
The Launcher Pistol can be fitted with a scope, even though it is not represented graphically. I don't see scopes as optional parts. Scopes can be crafted to add nothing to the HAM cost, and still grant a +10 to ideal range mod. I did this as a 10 point smith, a 12 point smith should be able to do even better.
So there's the list of stuff you will need to craft a launcher pistol. The only part of this that can be enhanced, is the advanced feed mech, barring the use of quest reward ppb's (pistol projectile barrels)or exceptional ppbloot drops.
Source for materials: SWGCraft.com. You can research the history of materials spawns on your server at that site to bet a real hande on what should be possible.

Gorax bone shards is the way to go. They can add over 100 extra damage. The trick is to buy or loot them 
Gorax hunting isn't that hard if you can get 3-4 friends to come along. The Gorax got a nasty DIzzy+KD attack so watch up though.
The second best alternative is to get some Nym loot. Kill pirates on Lok to aquire those. They add 20 extra max damage IIRC. With the right slice and pup it will bea decent LP.
IIRC a standard LP is about 68-209 on Eclipse. Add a 100 damage Gorax Bone and you got a 68-309 LP. Get lucky and get a good 30% Damage slice and we're talking about a ~90-409 LP. Add a 30% damage power up and you got a very nice LP

That reminds me that I need to buy a new LP.
I'm still using my original LP from when I started commando, back in Oct/Nov 03. 
Still pretty good, that. Max damage of 309, and a speed of 2.1 if I remember correctly.
