Thread: Looking for Commando information

Greetings Commandos

I am re-evaluating my template and looking to use my token respec on whatever it is I decide upon and am looking at adding Master Commando to my build. My current template is Master Bounty Hunter, Master Carbineer, Master Marksman and 0003 Pistoleer. I really like my current template but am looking for more of a damage dealer then what the carbines are giving me.

What I am thinking about is going Master Bounty Hunter, Master Commando, 0004 Pistoleer. Now I have been researching Commando but am still quite green in really understanding the full capabilities. I realize currently Commando has no special attacks, but from what I have read the Commando weapons can add states. Also from my understanding the majority, if not all, of Commando is AoE.

I have a few questions on the profession I was hoping I could get answered.

First, Does heavy weapon accuracy and speed stand on its own or does general ranged add to it? My belief is it is stand alone being Gen ranged covers pistols, carbs and rifles. The accuracy and speed for Heavy Weaps does seem quite low by itself, if Gen Ranged doesnt add to it, do the heavy weapons themselves have any modifiers to raise it?

Second, with heavy weapons, are ranged specials from BH and Pistoleer usable? Of course you can use ranged specials from any of the pistol, carb, rifle lines with the others but I am not aware if heavy weapons fit in that genre as well. If not, the knockdown, root, crit shot, bleed shots and such would be rendered useless with commando weapons making my template choice not as viable.

Thirdly, if the template is a viable choice and my BH/pistoleer specials are usable with commado weapons, what weapons would be recommended for use? Like I said before I am extremely green with the capabilities and even more so with all of the weapon choices. Aside from heavy and thrown weapons, what else does Commando have to offer by way of ranged equipment?

Its just like any other specific mod. General ranged/general melee adds to any specific ranged/melee mod out there, ours included. Otherwise we'd be permantly stuck at around +45 HW speed when our weapons are equiped, for example. Heavy Weapon mods are just like carbine, rifle, pistol, 2-handed, unarmed, polearm, 1-handed, etc etc.

Any ranged special can be used with any weapon it seems, ours included...otherwise there wouldn't be a point to no specials in commando's profession tree would there? We dabble into the other profession's for their specials to "power-up" with dots/states/aoe with our weapons. Mind you, right now thats not exactly working as AoE is broken and our "utility" that the Heavy Weapons use to power-up isn't the best of compensations for the lack of specials.

Commandos are defined by their weapons. So basically, thats all we get aside from the mods/defenses and assault armour certification. All our weapons are uniquely commando, requiring skill box certification. And the weapons themselves offer various state effects, such as the CL 50/54 weapons/grenades offer AoE and DoTs. The Rocket Launcher (CL22) offers KD, the Acid weapons offer blind, etc etc. Thats the problem we're facing unfortunately, as some of our weapons that offer the utility that could be combined with any special, are low Combat Level and aren't exactly useful.

Excellent. Thank you for the feedback. The more I look at Commando, the more excited I get about it. Now I am going to review all the weapons I can look up and thier specific uses. I want to get to know everything there is to so I can make a smooth transition and be educated with the profession. The template I had mentioned should be great for both offense and defense alike. I can deal with bugs and issues, I have been a Bounty Hunter since the days droids were NPC vendor supplied and not crafted by DEs so I am used to them.
