Hi, to any that might remember me, and hi to those i dont know
Ive been away from SWG for the past 6 months cus i had to put my stuff in storage, but ill be gettinhg it out soon and had a few questions i was wondering if anyone would mind answering for me.
First off, i read a post that pretty much stated that we have been severely weakened to the point of uselessness. Is this true or is it only that our profession has been changed to more impact the fact that we are a support profession? Or what?
My guy is a MTK/MC if i remember and when i was leaving was when Garvin was handing out hints like candy on the CU. Is it like Garvin said and TK still goes well with Commando, or is it not so great now?
I left quite awhile ago and it appears alot has changed, for instance StarNick is a correspondant now (congrats to you on that btw), so if anyone would mind answering(cus i know im not playing yet and i could just wait to play to find the answers to these questions but im bored so thot id ask).
Anything else anyone wants to add is fine im excited to see the changes but i fear ill be sitting on the ground on Tattooine again because my profession is one where i cant win a fight (PvP wise and high end aggros).
Anyway im gonna post now

Welcome back.
Commando=Screwed to Useless
Commando+TKM=Poor Combat Template
Commandos have no specials so you really need a Ranged Profession to do anything.
Our weapons are suppose to have attacks built into them like AoEs but they are broke.
But they still tick everything off and kill you. Also you can't really fight more then one Consider White NPC at a time. So AoEs ain't good for squat. Also you can't kill an NPC with a Flamethrower as if the DoT brings there health down to zero they become incapped. So um yay!

In all fairness, commando is better than it was before. Yes, AOE damage isnt working right, but special effects DO work. This means you can put out some nasty attacks with a flamer. For example, you can do area KDs, roots, dizzy, snares, bleeds, etc. Hardly useless. Smuggler/Commando is probably the best crowd control template available. Once damage gets fixed, last ditch should be awesome.

wb.
We are still broken but less then before the CU. We stand a better chance in PVP and we are still usefull PVE (our AOE sucks but you learn how to deal with it)

Overall: Better
Role: Worse
Its really mixed honestly. In PvP its pretty balanced, but we still don't achieve our role (and would of course be better off with more variety of dealing damage and working AoE). In PvE its another matter. Our HW's are only useful in AoE Rooting/Disarming (delaying opponent's attack)/crippling (slowing)/KDing. Thats really about it, as in normal damage we often get outclassed, in dungeons we can't use anything commando or we'll get our groups killed. Only if our group is swarmed in a tight space, should we use our HW and to really use the AoE to place better states from other professions on enemies.
Essentially...the thing we feared most, we are a toolbox profession in all entirity. We currently only power-up and help out other specials, and are not even close to being comparable let alone living up to a damage dealing role (in theory a Master Commando should outdamage a Master Bounty Hunter, not by a whole lot but it should be noticably. Its the other way around, and even with low-offense professions). And if AoE is suppoused to be our "Hvy Damage" capability, it comes up short as that pits our ENTIRE arsenal as special use only, and negates half our role against singular mobs. We're not a state profession, rather a damage profession. Right now, we can do little of either and are really only adequate or decently good doing states because of the AoE nature.
That pretty much sums it all up. We're better now where we actually have good defenses, good speed, good accuracy, no more uber armour/buffs so we do decently well in PvP (we can still do healthy damage but its no where near a damage dealing level). But we're worse in the case that our weapons are so special use, that they only serve to power up other professions, leaves commando cold in PvE enviroments, makes commandos not group friendly, and because weapons are our specials...they leave us without any specials to allow us to either be comparable or achieve our role.
Its a sad fact that alone commando is a 5 Offense, 3 Defense...and in standard attacks our weapons can easily be outmatched by a fellow profession with 2-4 in offense (1000 damage with charge shot opposed to 1600 damage with improved legshot for example...and the best? Today, in terms of AoE, I was outdamaged by a pikeman. Pikemen are "2" in offense, yet this one who's a guildmate of mine was hitting for about same or 100 damage less than my single hits, but doing 100% AoE splash damage. Usually profession AoE specials have a lesser damage multiplier I may add too), and in a totally different role. Our weapons only power-up via AoE/weak innate states, but that only makes (if fully working) commando useful in half the situations we were useful in Pre-CU. So in reality, we are lower than we were, but not technically. Its weird, but its true.

Sorry its taken so long to respond ive been really busy with school.
First off, yeah Im sure if the commando website is still up im not even on the board anymore.
Second im surprised you remembered that haha
Anyway ive been playin again for a couple days now, so i see what ya'll are saying, but in the long run it looks to me, at least for now, we'll be ok. We arent completely useless just a tad slow, and dont do the damage we should which i assume we are lobbying to fix
The slowness tho isnt a problem considering it is actually way faster than it was when i left.
Third, Only thing im really sad about now is how much everything has changed since I left. I still havnt seen any of my old friends (i only have 63 of them
) and im still getting used to not having automatic attacks. In the long run, however, I think everything will be ok. SWG has definitely taken a turn for the better and I am happy with the results so far (even with the few bugs that should be fixed eventually)
Anyway its good to be back, i'll burn a Rebel and think of you,StarNick
J/K haha
