I was bored so I thought I'd submit an idea. No clue if this had been discussed before, and I know Devs don't really look here but hey why not post something to waste my time.
Commandos could use a Mortar with some interesting abilities:
-Longest Range out of any weapons. I'm not much of a combatant but giving it a range of say 100m would make it pretty handy.
-Ignore LOS. This could make it over powered so it could be solved by making it so that at least one person you're grouped with sees the target you can hit it even if you cannot see it directly.
-AOE. Like a 10 m knockdown affect would just be amazing. Imagine taking on those hordes of terrorist raining death on them from above.
-Charge up to fire. Much like many specials you'd have to wait a second before shooting. And the time to reload would be considerable also. This is to keep the balance.
-Does damage considerable to a rocket launcher.
-Master Commando needed
Wouldn't that be bad ass and give Commandos a weapon worth having?

How about adding 2 persons needed. In RL, they always have 2 guys at a mortar station. And the recharge would be slow, but GREAT idea.

Would be similar to the E-Webb idea from long ago. Unfortunately I think technical limits as well as how much time is spent on commando development, really gates cool ideas like this
