Take a look around this board a bit, you might just find something useful.

1) I fully recommend getting VKs. Remember that Warcry and Intimidate are your friends. The first is a 10 second delay if it sticks to your enemy, the second, if it sticks, causes them to do half damage to you.

Get a good set of Ubese armor with a HIGH kinetic resistance. I’ve seen advanced with a 70% kinetic resistances. Personally, I could go for the mid-sixties, with some lowered ham. On my Zabrak TKA (started as a marksman, did some Stat Migration) I can wear everything but the helmet.

Use your bleeds from pistol/rifle/carbine, if you’ve mastered marksman already. Equip the pistol, use the bleed shot, then un-equip. The mob shouldn’t agro on you until the first bleed tic, then if you stay away and keep tapping peace, it’ll stop following you until the next bleed tic. This way, you can kite a non-spitting enemy quite a long time.

I would recommend in the beginning that you hunt someplace like Tatooine. Take out Womp Rats, Cu’pa, Diseased Bocats, and Zucca bores (the last two tend to bring friends and travel in tight clusters). If you can, group…either with a non-creature handler pet with the group command trained (if you’re not a creature handler able to use a creature handler pet), or a droid. Just group them and leave them behind. You’ll get the XP bonus for being in a group.

If you have more powerful allies that like to hunt, go to Dantooine and take missions. Don’t bother with unarmed while you do the monsters, but get them to let you do all the damage to the lairs. It’ll take awhile, but on a Grasslands Voritor Tracker lair, for example, I was pulling 4-5k in XP. Same with Piket lairs, etc.

2) Go up the Flame tree first. You can use the Launcher Pistol for the beginning (until you get better with the flame thrower). See if you can’t get a good flamer with a great slice (I prefer speed slices, personally, but that’s me). /Kneel, /Aim, /[insert attack here].

I gained the first two boxes of flame thrower rarely ever using Flame Single 1. I went to Tatooine, traveled out past Mos Taike (Near battlefield/krayt graveyard/beyond) and hunted Rogue Bantha. Maskscent, get into a decent range, and use the above combo with the attack being Overcharge Shot 2. Does a hell of a lot of damage with my flamer that was sliced for speed. Damage slice would be even better there. Peace right afterwards, and don’t attack any sitting in a large cluster. Grouped, that’s 1400 xp easy. If they start to agro you en mass, burstrun away.

Next go up in the Heavy Weapons line, then HAR line last. Once you get Flame Single two, the world is your oyster.

I would also recommend sinking money into composite armor with great encumbrance slices. I picked up a suit of Advanced Composite last night. Not the greatest saves, only 47-50% (not layers), but when I sliced it for encumbrance (I’m a smuggler, and I sunk a LOT of money into that vendor) I can wear everything save the gloves. Only two pieces AREN’T encumbrance sliced, and those two won’t help me wear the gloves, so, I just wear my normal gloves. Doesn’t look back.

I went from taking 150-200 points per hit to taking about 40-60 points per hit. I can’t believe I waited this long for a set of armor, even one that by Composite standards, isn’t that great (but I can wear the whole damned thing!). My suggestion? See if you can find the armor pre-sliced, or, if you have a smuggler buddy, get him to go with you to the Vendor. My house is now decorated with fgive pair of advanced blue composite pants, an extra helmet, an extra pair of gloves, two pair of boots, and an assortment of arm pieces.

It was worth every penny.

3) Grenades are okay, but I only used them against lairs, and then only to gain combat XP. The great thing about grenades is that you get ALL combat XP for it. Take my above Dantooine hunting example. That’s 4-5k Combat XP per lair, while you’ve baked the mobs themselves.

Good post Joar. Armour is a good idea. I went up the Unarmed tree without using armour.. or VKs. Silly noob-ish me, back then.

One tip about pulling single mobs towards you. Kneel at max range for your weapon, /aim, and bleed. Then peace out straight afterwards, and move back. The one mob that you bled will run towards you when the first bleed ticks over.

You have to kneel though. Or prone. If you're standing, the mob will agro you straight away.

I totally concur with the posts above.

I bought a full set of 66-67% kinetic resistant Ubese for around 65k, a speed sliced pair of VKs, and went through the Unarmed tree in a weekend, after I decided to drop BH. Unarmed IV went down in one day. If you have a pet, or probot, those help too for the grouping bonus, and also for a bit of tanking.

Send in the pet/droid, cycle through each target and bleed them, then run in and punch them all to death. Important that you only hit the targets with a bleed. Actually hitting them for a damage shot will result in receiving some pistol xp, which you don't want at this point. So long as only the bleed hits, when you finished beating them to death, all the bleed xp will go towards your unarmed xp.

I didn't use buffs at all while doing this, but a set of buffs can only make it easier (and make a pet/droid unecessary).

I really do emphasize the Ubese and speed sliced VKs.
