An assault rifle line. Commandos have traditionally used assault rifles/carbines. In real life and evidenced in Star Wars. The Hoth Troopers (while not Commandos) had assault rifles, the Endor Troopers (had to be Commandos...no normal troops would do for a mission like that) were using assault rifles. Where are the assault rifles? There isn't a single one in the game.As for the design of the assault rifle...well the ones the Hoth troopers would be best (since you get a good side profile from a scene). The assault rifle should probably have similar damage to the laser rifle...maybe up the min damage and lower the max damage...lower the firing rateto atleast 4.3, make it a little more inaccurate (an assault rifle is never as accurate as a bolt action merely due to the action...don't know how that works with laser weapons) and maybe increase the HAM a very small amount. Make the Damage Type Acid so we still get that damage type and give itlight/medium armor piercing and you have a weapon capable of effectively replacing the HAR (also giving us the accuracy's from the previous riflerequirements to get master marksman). If youagree or have a further thought on this please share.

Carbines are assault rifles. You can already use all but one of the carbines in the game, which for a mere six extra skillpoints you can also learn how to use. If you want to be good with an assault rifle pick up some carbineer skills as well.

No, don't go into Carbines. If you ever try to spam specials, you'll be out of HAM before your target is dead.

Carbines are miniaturized assault rifles and sadly are not as accurate or as powerful as their larger brothers. The Assault Rifle is a lot more accurate (unless we're talking about an ak-47...but they're still more accurate than the little ak-74SU) at range than carbines and have more muzzle velocity. Carbines in this game are not accurately depicted either. Carbines in this game are medium range...just not true. They're long range weapons that can deliver the power of a rifle indoors. In this game, they suck at both ranges. Carbines and Assault Rifles may be similar in appearance and use but the assault rifle tends to be the better choice.

Erm just a point Id like to make about the action comment. as a trained marksman in RL, Ive got to say that the action does not determine accuracy, the user does. the reason being, that if youve got an auto loading 30 round gun, youre generally a little more careless with your shots, or at least the untrained user, but if youve only got but the one shot, youve got to make taht shot count. bolt action also tends to eliminate the all so commmon "Spray and pray" technique, where someone with an automatic(or rarely a semi automatic) just pulls the trigger in the general direction and hope the spray of bullets does damage. Actions dont matter, depending on the gun type.
