Thread: Devs were right?

Ok before you all shoot me for stringing a title with those 3 words (and nearly bringing a death sentence upon myself)....I got a small idea, which just ballooned into a huge idea on why they want to bring JTL out first....

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=lightspeed&message.id=48569

This is the thread of a guy that played JTL at ComicCon...if you noticed he mentioned about friendly fire, and loosing alot of Imperial faction. If in a demo (timed I believe as well!), he can loose a hell lot faction shooting down his own faction (thus most likely gaining Rebel FP as well) plus shoot down tons of y-wings in a relatively short time span....JTL will become the ultimate place to farm FP (or notif the devs make FP gainage lower than on ground..which I hope they wont)

This then blossomed into thoughts about the GCW. If around the time JTL goes gold and is released finally...then people will have a big chance of getting more FP...which for the ground means more bases, turrets, and faction items (granted PvP will still be mostly borked at this time, and most likely faction items/pets will still suck). BUT the main thing is, that the GCW ground-wise will have a strong foundation to push off a GCW revamp with [due to alot more FP circulating]. And in turn, the GCW will heat up in space...as hopefully that'll be fully working by time of release.....and space combat IS id say half of the GCW and PvP in general. Also...if this is the case then, why have a GCW revamp before all the core systems are in? Yes the ground systems are borked...but what if something went wrong in the revamp? And borked it even more...and potentially borked space GCW? I think the devs want to get off a good polished PvP combat - in space - out before messing with the ground....and taking cues from how the space GCW will be (hopefully as its still in development...it'll be both finished and polished off by release...offering a shining role model for theground GCW)

So my point is...I think besides saying they needed to get JTL out, get their teams back together and devote 90% of their resources to ground based GCW/PvP...is only half of it. Whether planned or not, I see JTL significantly boosting PvP (obvious), an interest to get involved in PvP, and finally...heating up the GCW to luke-warm temperatures.

Its as if JTL will de-frost the meat....and then shove it on the grill when the Combat/GCW Revamps come out. Rather from starting the engine cold-turkey to Formula 1....it looks to me as if JTL will run the car a bit, before the 2 major revamps jump it to 90 miles per hour...

Typing this and thinking about it, finally has gotten me excited once again for the Revamps and JTL...and it seems like the Devs indeed were right in delaying the revamps...just like the Jedi (tho honestly poorly timed), the JTL will be a stepping stone to get to the Combat/GCW Revamps. And to me...that seems the right thing to do. Granted, we're still all angry at the devs for false promises....and just like everything they've done...this may not be perfect...or may end in disaster...but for once, this way of bringing us both an expansion and badly needed revamps looks like the most hopefuly and the safest way to do so.

I can wait...even more now after having this thought, can you?

The DEVs have a planthey are following. The problem is, that in the plan the professions were all working correctly. Therefore, the amount of DEVs and support of the ground game is non-existent. Yes I am sure they are thinking ahead in terms of PvP and the GCW. aka Jedi will not have an advantage in JTL like they do now on the ground. This is a straight twitch based shooter, with skills based on the individual player alone.

The problem is that after JTL is fininshed they will begin work on the next expansion, probably adding new planets and space sectors in. Without the efforts of the vocal majority on these forums the fixes and updates would not be taking place

For the most part Id say this is untrue...as after JTL, there realy isn't much for new expansions except for content too much for publishes. However the devs have said that updates such as new Planets, may come in the form of free publishes...but getting back on topic...they have also said they're going to be requiring around 90% of their entire team (JTL team included) for the GCW/Combat Revamp...this for us is equalivent as another expansion as its such a huge publish.

And finally...thats why they even have a forum, even though Haden belittled us to a point on that gameinformer interview, without the forums...SWG most likely would be dead by now...

Edit: Also...the reason why I post this, is because a heck alot of us are angry at the devs...saying fix ground and whatnot, and only a few saying its a better thing (for the sake of getting it done right)...but now I truely believe not only will it help the devs getting it right, but JTL will serve as a launchpad to propel the GCW/PvP again...

and why am I currently paying to have less than 100% of a team working on the game I have purchased and already pay for monthly? JTL is an expanion. Something that is above and beyond the current scope of the game. Do we get this feature for free considering we are paying for it now?

Expansions keep the game name on the shelves, plus bring in additional revenue. Expansions are not nessary to keep the main game working. that's why I believe that new planets and/or space sectors will be added. In addition, new species and professions can be added in. Plus many more ideas we have NOT thought of but those in charge have.

The game was pushed before fixes were put in that were found in beta testing. changes to modify, improve, or whatever continue to try and fix the ground game. The major complaints from the core players, along with E-Mails to game mags, have pushed the DEVs to fix the main game now. I don't think that would have happened without the input of very vocal players. A PvP/GCW interaction with space was probablly more of a marketing tool than a thought out approach for the game since a majority of players DO NOT want to PvP. Just check out the smuggler revamp.

Of course im crazy evelas

Also, clarification on what I said on expansions....JTL is what needs to be done to complete the game, without it, SWG would never fully become star warsy. But after that expansion, SWG will become limited in further expansions (that will provide sweeping "content" as devs have said they may publish new planets in free publishes rather than new expansions)

Room for new expansions I'd say would be the following:

  • Huge Publish of multiple planets/sectors (ie too large to download)

  • Content that will further progress the timeline (key to future expansions, as Galaxies is an ongoing series of games...and what better way to introduce the next two movies and then possibly the EU with expansions?)

Those are my ideas for new expansions, similar to yours....but im not saying there WONT be new expansions. What I said about expansions is short term, not long term and is based on other player's and dev's POV's.

All I can say is that I hope the Devs put out the Combat and GCW revamps before they even THINK about doing another expansion. We really need them.

You're paying for the right to play the game, for the access to their hardware, and the administration team that manage the hardware...

How much development SOE do is up to them, while no development would kill the game we can't demand it, they are not legally bound to provide it.
