I had a master commando from Sept of '03 until about a month ago. Sadly due to getting my arse handed to me in PvP and the lack of effectiveness of our disposables, I dropped it finally. I find myself refusing to enjoy this TKM/Rifleman combo even if it is much stronger.
I had tried Master Commando/TKM, but always used TKM in PvP after people started migrating to melee templates. Also, tried Master Commando/Carbineer just to try and simulate having an assault rifle (seeing as the combat revamp keeps getting pushed farther away and it is still unsaid whether we will actually ever recieve one). I always supported having a carbine style assault rifle rather than the sniperish rifleman weapons.... well now after using rifleman and actually dealing the fast and heavy dmg it can do, I have had a bit of new image for my toon forming in my head.
I accidently put a +11 rifle speed CA on my demolitionists belt, while trying to put it on my warcry/intimidate shirt. My guildmates say it is a sign that I need to return to my former ways and use my newfound rifle skills with it. I am strting to agree as I miss my grenades, even if they blow me up too, and I miss my RL's and HPBC's.
Here is my dilema, I would have to drop TKM which I have loved for so long even when I had commando, which would in turn lower my defenses a bit and take away my melee mitigation. I would also lose that ever handy meditation ability which I have learned to depend on with all the docs healing tumblers. I would also be having to lose my terrain negotiation (why combat medics have it and commandoes do not, is beside me). I am very dependent upon my terrain nego for kiting and closing in on a target, especially on terrains such as Dathomir where I spend a lot of time.
Sorry for a long post, but wanted people to see where I am coming from and get opinions on two templates that have passed my mind if I were to return to commando... It will be for PvE mainly, but some PvP when base defense and assault is needed or I get a couple too many beers in me
TKM/MRifleman (firing a 7.7 T21 once per second)/Explore IV and some medic is my current.
Or Master Commando/MRifleman (the DXR6b is so fun and feels like an assault rifle) with novice medic or Explore I for terrain nego.
Or just say screw both TKM and MRifle and go master commando with 0/4/4/4 BH to get some carbs and pistols skills for the LP?
What do you guys think the best template would be for me to try and restore my old fun with commando and be as versatile as possible. I don't need to be a tank, rather a very versatile and destructive offensive machine with decent defense. Thanks for any advice from you old school guys.... I really wanna come home to the fold, but am lost in the melee diseased world

I was a Master Commando last fall for about two months. I enjoyed the hell out of the flamethrower and the launcher pistol; but as you know, the other three lines of the profession need some work
. I am currently a Master Rifleman, and my planned template is going to be Master Rifleman, 0040 Commando and 0434 Pistols with some medic thrown in there for healing. I think this nicely provides all the firepower of Rifles, with the nifty light shows and close-quarters combat provided by the Commando, and fortified with the extra melee defense, pistol speed and accuracy of the Pistoleer prof. This is likely to be my final template for a while, as I am tired of levelling and plan on taking some time to do some quests, explore and hang loose.

Personaly if I were to go the BH route, I'd go Master Commando, 0044 BH, 0030 Smug
This gets your LPthe speed and specs from BH as well as low blow from smug for a ranged KD
as well as the Smug delay shot thingie I just got in df2 (havent played with it yet)
Right now I'm doing the cookie cutter MC/TKM thing with dirty fighting 2 so far, going for 3
I was real tempted to do Rifles but went TK instead...could change my mind but TK is real fun.
Expendables would compliment Rifles real nice methinks...
Dex Fay'Scatha
Master Commando
Teras Kasi Master

Never thought of that BH template. That might be one for me to think about. Nice pistol specials for the LP with speed and accuracy. I was thinking bout the expendables with rifle as well... could use rifle to do standard fighting from distance while lauching the occasional rocket....if something began to close, I would be far enough back to be able to anticipate the rush and have enough time to switch to flamer with the weapons delay before they got in range to burn. Thanks for the advice guys, anyone else have any ideas to throw into the pot?

Yeah I went back to commando as well, I was commando for a while a couple months ago and wanted to go all melee and now I'm back onto ranged.
This past weekend I was experimenting with combinations between commando 0040, BH 3044, pistoleer 0044, smuggler 0140 and ended up with what's written in my sig plus smuggler 0010 for feign death.
The BH speed and attacks are insane with the launcher pistol and annoys people in PVP especially at starports. I killed 5 Peko Peko Albatros with the LP using eyeshot, it worked well.

I have always been interested in the Commando prof. I orginally was going up the Smuggler/Pistoleer template but the smuggler push-back and 2 of the 4 smuggler tree absoultly drive me crazy I decided to rethink my toon. I didn't play this toon for 3 weeks so I could get a fresh look on what I wanted. In the end I have decided to change from my current temp to the following.
Smuggler 0/4/4/0
Commando 0/0/4/0
BH 0/0/4/4
Medic Novice
Scout 4/0/0/0
Pistoleer Novice
TKA Novice
This temp is by no meansa defense stacker at all. I can enjoy every hading out every kind of damage (energy, kinetic, heat, stun, acid, elec, blast) and still have some TN so I can get in and out of trouble just as fast. By now means is this an Uber temp but it is something that I enjoy so far.
P.S. Haveing the ability to slice you own weapons and gernades is a real plus. I have a FT with a speed slice that makes a world of difference.

Yeah, I had once tried commando/smuggler and it was fun, but the lack of any additional defense with smuggler made me change my mind on it. You are right though, slicing your own 'nades and disposables was very handy. Saved a lot of cash and inventory room as it is a pain to have to try and carry 25 stacks of grenades after pulling em out to get em sliced in advance. Was much easier to slice a couple as I needed and leave the rest in a crate. Good thing for me though that I run a mainly smuggler/bh/mercenary guild that I have easy access to slicers... so after toying with the idea, I think I may give this MComm/MRifle bita fair shake and see how it works out. Just gonna have to lose my terrain nego and meditation.... oh well can't have it all I guess. Just put my LP, HAR, and flamer back in my inventory.... looks like I am coming back to the fold. Only hope I like this enough to keep it for a bit, tired of grinding and regrinding profs. I swear as many times as I have mastered things and remastered things I could have already opened a couple jedi slots

You know, I had plum forgotten about the dirty fighting line of Smuggler
! Excellent point, I think I will have to consider picking that up instead of the xx3x line in pistoleer. I will have to rethink my point expenditure, though.
Side rant that probably belongs in the pistoleer forum: I am a Pistoleer/Smuggler on Wanderhome (a character I haven't played since February), and it always drove me nuts that the best specials and speed modifiers aren't in the Pistoleer profession!

I'm going for Master Commando/BH 0/0/3/4, TKA 4/0/0/0. I wouldn't do rifleman, due to the fact that you might start forgetting to use your commando skills.

Yeah that is my biggest fear is that I will just be keeping Commando on the back burner using the Rifleman skills like an assault rifle. I am hoping I can find a good balance without leaning on rifle too much. Want it more as an opening and closing tool while using Commando to try and make as much devastation as possible using disposables, grenades, and the flamer when the range closes.
