i was trying to think of some questions that u might be able to answer that wouldnt break the agreement u made at the summit. If you could answer any or all of these that would be super.

1. Is the CU going to be something that changes the game visibly in terms of gui, weapons, specials? or is it gonna be more behind the scenes revamping of the numbers aspect to combat?

2. could u give an earliest to latest range of when u think it will finally be implemented to live

3. are jedi going to be looked at in the CU?

thanks a lot

p.s. if u can think of questions for garvin that u think are answerable w/o breaking nda please post here.

Some professions will be getting new specials which mean new animations...there will also be some new weapons not previously introduces...besides that, the HAM bar system will be changing as well as a few other "workings"...I'd say about 15% of the CU is new graphics, the rest is all behind the scenes with number crunching and re-ordering/tooling...I will reveal this (looks around for TH with his sniper rifle)...some of the new things going in were added to the game via .tre files in the past (not saying how long ago or what type of items)...

2. could u give an earliest to latest range of when u think it will finally be implemented to live

Well...tough question...I tend to base my guess on how long it took them to roll out JTL from Alpha testing to Live (3 to 4 months)...Going by that, if things get going like they are telling us in January, I'm hoping we'll see the CU go live by May. Get yourself signed up for Beta if you haven't already. I'm hoping they stick to their 2 week Alpha period, which means we could see Beta start end of January or early February.

There are some that believe that the CU won't hit the live Servers until at least June or July...I'm trying to be a bit more optimistic then that, and since they are modeling the CU processes after JTL, giving the CU forums tons of attention, and SOETyrant is really cracking the whip, I feel more and more optimistic each day...

3. are jedi going to be looked at in the CU?

Unfortunately that would be breaking the NDA to reveal that (that question actually came up in the CU forums on whether we can discuss the Jedi CU involvement outside those forums...the answer came back "do not discuss it at this time"...Sorry...SonGouki (Jedi Correspondent) would be the person to ask, but even he can't talk about it yet as far as I know (but when we can, I'm sure he'll have the big scoop)....

If they are able, I would assume they would try to get the CU done before Episode 3 hits the theaters. They will probably bank on gettting some new subscribers with the release of Revenge of the Sith.

Yea I said this awhile back. It will be released in marketing fashion as to take advantage of the release of Episode 3. Let's just hope it works as hoped and draws in a bunch of new subscribers.

Does that mean you can't say if jedi numbers are being tweaked or are we refferrring to a questions of role/purpose/interaction when it comes to Jedi. Anyway I don't see how the CU wouldn't effect the Jedi as buffs and such are being changed as well and there main opponent BHs will be getting some attention I'm sure. So it would seem there numbers should atleast be looked at but I'm sure the sandbox will make sure they are. I have heard a lot of rumors regarding changes to Jedi interaction with the rest of the players and I just hope they don't separate it so much as to have no gameplay between the common player and the Jedi players (if thats even what they are up to).

I think my biggest interest is in whats going to happen to melee. You would have to assume if the Devs concentration is to regain a greater Starwarsy feel that blasters will be emphasized and melee deemphasized. But how exactly do you do that without inverting the current system where instead of melee being kings and ranged being seond rate you make melee second rate and ranged kings. Though I'm not sure that would be entirely bad The key to me is not being the most powerful but I want to PvP and I want to have a chance if I play my chracrter right to win but most of all I want to have fun. And to me that means divirsity. Heading out against all sorts of foes and combinations not knowing who you'll be facing would be have the strategy and fun. Anyway I hope the FFs start the first week of January and not the end of January because I'm just chomping at the bit. Oh to hang these pikes on the wall and pick back up my kryat flamethrower and dust off the crates of proton grenades... yea budddy

It's hard to say...what I can say, Jedi included, is that ALL numbers are being tweaked...All professions that have anything to do with Combat are going to be effected in some way, but the extent of how they are effected I can't say at this point...and truthfully, even if I could speak about Jedi, I'd still likely refer you to the Jedi Correspondent (since that's not my territory...I don't know it as well as him). I have dropped hints about a new feature planned to be added eventually that will drastically effect the more "public" Jedi, but as far as I know it's considered "outside" of the CU, so I have no idea if it will happen before, during or post-CU...but when it does, I'll definitely be playing that day...

As for Melee...Star Wars will always have a bigger focus on Blasters and Lasers for that "Star Warsy Feeling"...but there are changes going in that will make Melee professions perform better in a PvP environment...To be truthful, ranged professions will still have some serious advantages for PvP, but Melee professions will be "better off" then they are currently...the way that Melee will deal in PvP is by "bringing the fight to them"...that's about all I can say on that without getting a NDA smack...

And where do Commandos fit in? Especially since we are currently a ranged profession with Melee specials...Well, we will definitely be able to play PvP AND PvE...remember...we are a HYBRID of Melee and Ranged...we are more Ranged then Melee though, so our skills post-CU will reflect that. We should, post CU, finally feel like a Ranged profession, but also have a Meleeflavor to fall back on. We will be the "Heavy Weapon Specialists" specializing in Heavy Damage capabilities at both range and melee distance. We will find that no matter what route we go dabbling, just about every Combat Profession out there will have something that will make us stronger (Melee or Ranged). And other professions will find themselves made "heavy" by combining with Commando...

The trick for every Combat profession to remember is that "the higher you go, the better you will be"...

yea Jedi will be an interesting side note to see what happens with them and their interaction with the rest of the player population in teh CU and/or post-CU but I don't want to talk about them anyway Jedi are nothing but bantha poo-dooo LOL

I'm hoping this CU reall adds some cool new gadgets and toys and really juices up the fun factor again. I just hope after the CU they move real quick on the GCW revamp and bring out some new factional armor like snow trooper armor or swamp trooper armor. I want to sport my flamethrower in some stylin armor hehe

Cheers!
