I was just messing around with the idea of a new tank template and the question of how exactly does mitigation work??
Before I ask the real question I'll go ahead and post my template idea incase some one has tried it..
Novice Commando (Assault Armor Cert)
Master Pikeman (For Impale 3.6x Modifier and Imp Intimidate)
TKA 0100 (For Imp CoB)
Doctor 4004 (For some excellent buffs and infusion which I can't live without anymore)
Ok, so hopefully people see what I'm trying to do with this template. If you haven't already figured out what I'm thinking, I'm going for a all out mitigation style build.
Seeing as CoB reduces damage, as well as intimidate, stack those 2 on top of Assault Kinetic Armor and I was hoping to be tough as steel.
Then as I was messing with KodansSWG Calc I noticed that in almost every profession you get stuff like "Mitigation 40%" and to quote from the Commando "Heavy Beam Weapons 4" box, it says:
"Assault Armor Accuracy, Mitigation 40%"
"This ability counters the amount of accuracy reduction imposed when wearing assault type armors. This level of mitigation will reduce up to 40% and lower accuracy and hindrance values"
So to me, that right there says having novice commando means I get jack for mitigation.. even if I buy a 800k suit of Reb Factional armor which has 7300Kinetic I still get jack shi* for mitigation with Assault armor.
Please chime in and correct me if this isn't true. I was really hoping to wear assault armor =/

You'll be able to wear it fine, but you'll move like a snail, miss every other shot and fire slower than most old people drive.

Reply the mitigation number represents a mitigation to your accuracy penalty, not to your accuracy. Most armor will lower your accuracy unless you have the skill to counter it.

Thanks for the quick replies.
So basically Kinetic mitigation has nothing to do with skills or template and still all to do with your armor?
I already knew my accuracy, speed, etc would be junk. Just wondering if I'de get the kinetic benifit from the armor =)
PS. I like how the devs said the new system would be less confusing =P
Edit: I should rephrase that first line.. mitigation can depend on template choices for things like Intimidate, CoB, and Duelist stance only right?

Armour mitigation has nothing to do with mitigating damage. For example, a suit of Advanced triple-layered assault armour(and be aware, Im pulling these numbers out of my arse here), might give a -30% penalty to movement, -30% to speed and -40% to accuracy. If you have 30% movement, 30% speed and 40% accuracy assault armour mitigations, those penalties no longer apply, the mitigation cancells them out.
With or without the penalties, the armour doesnt give you less protection.
