Can pets it player made food? If not what kind of food can i buy to feed a pet, my forgae stinks . Thanks

yes, anything you can eat you can feed it.

That's odd. I made Novice CH a few days ago and every time I try to feed my pet it says I have no food to offer it. Yet I have a backpack filled with player eatable food. I even tried moving a Melon out of the backpack into my main inventory just in case it couldn't find them in the bag and it still said I had no food. I'm sure I'm missing something very obvious...

Forage does work well when you need to feed them. Now if you forage a can of worms for fishing, dont be surprised if it wont eat it. Keep trying. btw, you can forage most anywhere just like artisans can sample most anywhere. Waiting for a Shuttle/Transport is 1 place where i tend to forage for pet food since i got time to spare.

What is the purpose of food and drink in the game? Is there a negative affect for not eating?

certain food and drink will increase your HAM status for a short time.

There aren't any negative effects for not eating, but there are positive and negative effects for eating. To be sure, Examine any food before eating it. I foraged something the other day that offered a negative to Mind. Of course it was a jar of bait, so you can probably assume that anything not obviously edible might not be good for you.

Of course if your a Mon Calamari...
