Thread: Commando, My Opinions
First I'd like to point out that I realize that much of this has been covered in previous posts however I want people to know of what I thought of when I looked at the skill lines for Commandos.
1. Profession PreRequisites: CurrentlyCommando requires the Marksman, Novice Brawler, and Unarmed 1-4. While great in theory it doesn't work very well. You will notice that very few, if any Commando's actually use the unarmed line at all after getting it. This is probably mostly due to the fact that Commando's have no melee specific skills in their lines. Perhaps instead of the Brawler skills, Commando's should require one or more of the lines in Scout. Exploration, Trapping, or both are lines that would make Commando's more sensible.
Or, make Commando an Ultra Elite (Elite-Elite) profession and tack it on to Squad Leader. Granted there won't be enough skill points for this as it is (29 SP short for it right now). However I imagine that more will be given to players when Ultra Elites comes out... Otherwise there won't be a BHUE (Bounty Hunter Ultra Elite).
2. Weapons: As it stands it appears that Commando's are to be the Heavy Artillery so to speak... Ok, that's fine. However make the weapons *act* like heavy artillery. They can hit Vehicles (this includes AT-ST's) and Buildings, however they aren't very accurate against 'human-sized' creatures. The Heavy Particle Cannon and Rocket Launcher should be the bane of vehicles. While Flamethrowers and acid rifles are the anti-infantry weapon of choice. Grenade! I think these are ok... except for the extreme HAM cost that I've seen on them. Then again they could have been poorly crafted.
I previously posted that Commando's should get access to E-Web's... and I meant it. How to implement them, I dunno, make it so that the person wielding it can't move except around the weapon to aim it (it's tripod mounted)
I guess I covered everything I wanted to in 2 categories. I'm impressed with myself.
the light E web was more of an M60 style weqapon ie SAW thats would be fitting for this proffesion in my opinoin but heh I just want my current toys to work as advertised the new ones can come later
well a commando.. isn't suppost to be a good scout.. we are a power house of damage.. and the only thing more damaging then Firearms is pure martal arts combat. having Unarmed makes us the most well rounded characters in the game. when i'm about to die i swtch to unarmed and heal myself. trust me you last alot longer running around unarmed then you would armed
Also to totally replace the unarmed with Exploration 4 will kill the uniqueness and the main point of commandos as a hybrid class, The Commando should be the king of the battle grounds, and dare i say, should equal or even be better in combat situations than the Bounty Hunter. Having requirnments in Exploration 4 seems like the easy way out to become a commando and diminishes the role of the commando as a soldier.
Personally i would like the requirnment to be Master Brawler, then have a branch in the commando skill tree to be dedicated to melee fighting, But thats just me... and alot of people will disagree with me, but i just think that mastering brawler on top of marksmen will just make Commandos truely the most suited for combat, as they should be.
But then again what do i know?

Actually, instead of requiring scout, they SHOULD require some Medic line, say for instance First Aid IV. Why!?!
Because if you do your research EVERY Elite Paramilitary Unit REQUIRES basic first aid of all its troops. Everyone knows how to take a live, and everyone knows how to save one, Though they have specialized medics who train in it more than the others everyone still has the basics.
I cant believe I just wasted 5 minutes of my life reading this thread about changing HOW someone becomes a Commando.
You do realize of course that this is impossible? Seeing as there are ALREADY commandos out there that are playing, do you suggest we just make them "not commandos" any more until they do the "new pre-reqs".
Come on think about the actualy IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS before you post this kinda of crud that will never happen. Its a waste of reading time.
The rest of the ideas are however okay, but the brawler/scout/first aid/squad leader thing?
What are you thinking.
