Pre-reqs for Commando - Master Marksman, Unarmed Specialist.

---

To make the unarmed pre-req make sense, we need something in the commando's arsenal that involves fighting unarmed. (well, fighting unarmed in the sense of no ranged weapon)

For this, I say introduce another Commando only weapon - The commando knife (or a star-warsy equivalent name) - It fits into the character, being that last thing the commando can count on when all else has failed.

Make it effective at brawler range with the cert coming at Field Tactics 1, and then a couple specials at FT 2 and then 4 - say "throat strike" and "maim" or something cool like that.

The weapon would be a way to defend against creatures that rush, and would be a way to finish off opponents after doing the majority of dmg at range. Obviously, TKAs would defeat commandos pretty easily at close range in PvP. It would truly be a "last resort" weapon.

These forums are here for suggestions, Yes there are more important things that need fixing before they expand on the existing but the points of the original poster are more than valid.

If a TKA's or any Melee clase for that matter get close enought to attack us, Unarm or hold a butter knife will do little to help commando. If we need anything they should give us C4 type bomb to take out base, Anti Tank (for taking out AT-ST) land mine or a true heavy weapon like a Mini gun!

Commando only use knife when stealth is needed. and since you cant sneak up to any body in this game. it kind of pointless. The way I see it. it only another weapon for me to send my money on.. I already bought a flame thrower I havent touch, Acid rifle that will get me kill if Iam stupid enought to use it. (Yes I was stupid enought to try to use it in combat)

People do not understand the intent of prerequisites.

They are NOT intended to primarilly serve as a logical basis for the elite professions. Yes, they should have some relation, and if it is logical, that is better, but the most important purpose is for balance. The intent of the Unarmed is to "blow" 29 points. Its the same reason that master scout and the rifle branch is a pre-req for bounty hunter.

If you didnt have to blow those points on something useless, you could spend them on something much more valuable....like becoming a master weaponsmith so you can make your own weapons. If you did that, the need for interdependence would be diminished.

Pistoleers complain about bounty hunters because BH are better at pistols. They should be. Pistolers can take CH for the same points that BH spend. Thus a BH and Pistoleer + CH should be relatively balanced.

Catch my drift? They are supposed to make some sense, but thats not their primary function. Its a balancing technique.

'Logically' if someone were to rush up on a Marine they'd get acrack in the jaw with the butt of an M16. Commandos SHOULD have something similar, not meant as a MAIN, attack but a last ditch defense.

Ok - so the unarmed branch is there for balance. Essentially, any opening tree could be the same pre-req, because 29 skill pts is used in any of the opening branches.

In BH's case - the scout tree makes sense - tracking, being out in the field, stealth (a bit) - part of bounty hunting.

However, for Commando - the unarmed tree makes no difference at all. The rep-reqs SHOULD have a bearing on your skills in elite professions. Otherwise, you might as well just have novice commando cost 35 skill points to learn.

It all comes down to quality of the game in terms of professions. If new players see that unarmed is neccessary for commando because they have that cool knife attack, last resort move, then it makes sense in his or her mind - no questions. That is better than just having a unarmed pre-req for balance. Makes everything more logical.

Every profession should be the same as well. The pre-reqs should be there for more than simple balance.

Well Commando is a professional heavy-weapons soldier.

Every standing-army in the world trains their soldiers in hand-to-hand.

does every army in the world have AT-ST?

using logic in a fantasy based GAME...cmon

but I'd like to think taking unarmed would have a benefit other then LOGICAL implications

combat medic needs support 4 and master medic...so to be a combat medic doesnt require knowing how to use ANY weapon...you just need to "know" howfight...

does the army train its medics to swing a staff or a sword in combat? both give combat xps...see I can use logic too...

using this logic shouldn't combat medic require unarmed 4 to become one...I mean EVERY combat medic in the world is a soldier...right? and every soldier in the world is trained in unarmed combat...ergo combat medic should have to learn unarmed 4....
