Thread: Low damage with my flamethrower
I am Master Commando and Master Carbineer. The Carbineer attack that does the most damage, as far as I know, is the knee-cap shot. I have a sliced plasma flamethrower with 999 max damage and about 134 elemental damage (can't remember the exact figure right now, maybe it's not that one, but close to).
When I do knee-cap shot with my plama flamethrower I deliver about 800-850 hitpoints to a "classic" bol on Dantooine (levels 78 to 82, depending on the mission and group).
A friend of mine left the game. He was Master Bounty Hunter and had a very good DE-10 pistol (close to 20 mil, including the anti-decay kit). This pistol has a base dps of 316 and a max damage close to 900. If I use the same attack on the same bol with this pistol, I deliver exactly the same damage (aprox. 800-850 hitpoints). And I have NO pistols skills, not even the Marksman ones.
So, obviously I am missing something about Commando. My flamethrower is not as good as the pistol (costed me 2 mil) and, in fact, it's a heavy weapon, not a pistol, so maybe a comparison between weapons means nothing because they are too different in combat.
Could anyone please help a relatively new Commando to understand what he is missing, please?

Your PFT is only about 100 damage off, so it should be hitting for between 1800-2000 damage on a bol, maybe your combat spam isn't on verbose so you don't see rest of the numbers? (on brief mode, only shows actual damage)

Hmmm... that's true, I was talking about the actual damage, not the damage before applying armor benefits. I am usually hitting for 1600-1700 or similar values if we don't count armor
By the way, how did you manage to get 1113 damage?
Getting that much damage isn't really hard, as said before, get a good krayt tissue stack and that damage is easy. Since you won't be able to damage slice at that level, just slice for speed/critical hit chance and the slap a damage powerup on it.
Though since damage powerups usually screw you speed I tend to prefer speed powerups, which lower your accuracy by a small amount which is hardly noticeable.
So if you do a full critical hit chance slice and slap a speed pup on a decent krayted flamer you'll be good to go.
Though I'm not sure how cheap slicing will be nowdays.

I have 2 plasma flammers that do nowhere near that damage. They are both pre-CU but, I have looked alot, and most of what I find re inline with what I already have. Where can I get me a flakmethrower that does that much damage?
Ok, first of all, you can't put a power up on an FT...secondly, every single one of the other ranged professions can out damage a commando. Which is complete BS. Commando's should do the most damage, over every other profession, but our speed and action costs should be terrible. At the moment, all a commando is able to do is AoE status effects, like area root or area knockdown. But other than that we have terrible damage and extremely high SAC with a very high speed to match.
The commando profession is one of the most useless professions post-CU, and it pains me to watch a pistoleer out damage me, with a weapon that is worse than mine.
