Commando FAQ
v1.0 (Work in progress)

This is a list of the most Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Commando profession. The list is based on the most common questions posted in the Commando forum as well as other questions that has relevance to the Commando players.

This FAQ is written by Morell Taesio in cooperation with Ivoni(Writer of the Commando guide).

The FAQ

Q: Are there any weapon power ups available to the Commando weapons?
A: Currently the only power ups available is to the Launcher Pistol.

Q: Can Commando weapons be sliced?
A: Yes all of them, even Grenades.

Q: What H/A/M pool does the specials attacks drain so I can adjust my stats accordingly?
A: The delay on the specials on the HAR and Flamethrower negate any possibility of draining your ham pool. The cost of using grenades and consumable heavy weapons mainly drains health, but again the delay on them prevents any real spamming of them. It's not suggested to boost Quickness and Stamina as a Commando, there is no benefit to having a higher stat of the before mentioned.

Q: Where can I find a Commando trainer?
A: Corellia - Kor Vella (-3344, 3292)
Rori - Narmle (-5180, -2350)
Rori - Rebel Military Outpost (3695, -6485)
Tatooine - Mos Entha (1553, 3338)
Tatooine – Imperial Oasis West of Mos Espa (-5292, 2718)
Tatooine - Wayfar (-5038, -6609)

Q: Can I use Pistoleer specials with the Launcher Pistol?
A: Yes, anything that works with a pistol works with the Launcher Pistol. Including specials from the Smuggler Dirt Fighting tree.

Q: Can I use other Marksman specials with Commando weapons?
A: No. None other then the Aim command from the Ranged Support tree.

Q: Is there any character builder websites I could use to setup my profession template?
A: There’s an easy to use tool which quickly lets you select which skill boxes/professions you want to dabble in or master along with your Commando profession, it can be found here http://swg.allakhazam.com/db/charbuild.html

Q: Where can I find good Commando weapons?
A: It's best to ask in the forum which houses your server community, http://forums.station.sony.com/swg and look under Galaxies. Many weapon smiths post their inventory.

Q: What is considered a good gun?
A: An average Launcher Pistol is 45-176 damage 2.9 speed.
An average Flamethrower is 423-814 damage 5.0 speed
An average Heavy Acid Rifle is 318-704 damage 5.4 speed

Q: What is required to get Novice Commando?
A: Master Unarmed IV and Master Marksman.

Q: What’s the best way to get to Unarmed IV?
A: Two options. One is to take missions and only use unarmed on lairs. The other is to get a good speed sliced Vibro Knuckles and go beat up on things. You can put bleeds on the target and help kill it faster making it easier. If you choose, you can punch it once, bleed it and then run around out of melee range letting the bleed kill it. If you do this successfully you can earn Unarmed exp with very little actual fighting.

Q: But I’m not Certified for Vibro Knuckles?
A: It doesn’t matter much, the difference between being certified and uncertified is the damage done. You’ll be doing less damage but still be using the speed on the vibro knuckles.

Q: What is a good race for Commandos?
A: No races is better at any profession then any other race, some do have minor bonuses to various skills but it’s more a preference of what you race you’d like to look like.

Q: What Commando weapon has the highest Armor Piercing value.
A: All non consumable weapons have no armor piercing. All consumable have armor piercing. The rocket launcher and heavy particle beam cannon being the highest.

Q: Can you recharge Commando consumable weapons with charges?
A: No.

Q: Does skill mods from other professions work when you are using heavy weapons?
A: Some do, and some don’t. For example Ranged and Melee Defense skills work all the time regardless. However skills such as Unarmed Toughness only work when you are fighting with Vibro Knuckles or Unarmed.

Q: How does +xx Weapon Speed?
A: The speed is an increase in percent, so +50 Flamethrower speed decreases your weapon delay by 50%.

Q: How long is the “cool down” period after using Specials with the flamethrower?
A: With the flamethrower it is 15 seconds when you get flamesingle1 and down to 8 seconds with flamesingle2 (Skill mods included).

Q: Skill mods doesn’t seem to work with the Acid Rifle, I see no speed/accuracy increase?
A: Currently the Acid Rifles skill bonuses are broken and does not decrease delay or improve accuracy of the Acid Rifle. What this means is that no matter what it is 20 seconds delay on the cool down of the specials. Also the speed of the gun is never faster regardless of your speed skills with it.

Q: What’s the highest Creature Level pet I can use as a non-CH Commando?
A: As a non-CH you can use up to CL 15.

Q: What is the best pet to use as a none-CH Commando?
A: The Mountain Krevol makes the best tank vs Melee opponents where the Rock Beetle makes the best vs Ranged opponents that use Energy weapons. Though the difference is minimal between the two pets, both have an Armor Rating of Light and 2200 H/A/M.

Q: What is a DoT?
A: DoT stands for Damage over Time. It is an attack which drains the afflicted person/mob/NPCs H/A/M every 10 seconds for 1/3 the amount of damage the hit did before armor and resists values reduced the damage. Attacks like Healthshot 1 and 2, Flamethrower Cone and single, Poisons and Diseases are all DoTs.

Q: How do vulnerabilities in Armor work?
A: If someone has Vulnerability in their Armor they take more damage then they would if they had a resistance instead of vulnerability. For example an opponent has Armor Rating Light but a Vulnerability to Heat that means if you attack that target with your flamethrower you will ignore the Armor Rating Light and do normal damage. For more information about armor see the official page at http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Advanced%20Guide%20Armor%20Fundamentals

Q: How do I obtain the best accuracy when fighting with my heavy weapons?
A: Stand close to your target and use the /kneel command to enter a kneeling position. Currently Prone makes your accuracy hit rock bottom and is not advised to use.

Q: What is kiting?
A: Kiting is a method used to attack a target while running away from it and keeping distance so said target never reaches you to cause any harm to you. This doesn’t work with targets that uses a ranged attack though, only on NPCs that melee.

Q: What is the difference between Flame single 1 and 2.
A: Damage done and delay time after firing.

Q: How does flame cone work?
A: The flame cone special sprays flames in a cone towards the target you have selected, everything caught in the path between you and your target inside this Cone will have a chance of being hit by the attack.

Q: I just made Novice Commando, where is a good place to hunt?
A: basically, every planet other then the starter ones are good places to hunt. Talus is always a good step up from the starter planets, or you could try the more difficulty ones like Endor, Dathomir, and Dantooine though they may require a group or good preparation for a solo player (Armor, pet, stims, ect.).

Q: Can I use other Marksman specials with Commando weapons?
A: No. None other then the Aim command from the Ranged Support tree.

This is not true, I use suppression fire religiously with my launcher pistol. It does work. I haven't tried other ranged support specials with my LP.

I guess I could be more clear about that issue, since Launcher Pistol is a special case in that it functions like a pistol and not like the other commando weapons.

A: Yes, anything that works with a pistol works with the Launcher Pistol. Including specials from the Smuggler Dirt Fighting tree.

Point taken, will rewrite it to be more clear for next revision.

Don't you need Hunting IV and Exploration IV from the Scout line as well?

Nope. That's for the Creature Handler profession.

OK.. I am an idiot then... I don't know whereI got the idea of needing Hunting IV and Exploration IV.

/me goes off to give up some of the Scout line

Hell, with mounts coming, I won't even need the exploration line at all to go over terrain.

Q: Do the DOTs stack?

A: Yes, Flamesingle1 and Flamesingle 2 stack. So do Flamecone1 and Flamecone1. All for the flamethrower. For the Launcher Pistol, Healthshot 1 and Healthshot2 (if you have novice Pistoleer) Stack.

Q: Can Krayt Tissues be used for Commando Weapons?

A: Yes, 5 tissues with identical serial numbers are required for a Flamethrower.

Q: I just killed someone and they are permadead because they were buffed and their wounds are greater than their stats and I can't heal them in the cloning center. Is there anything that can be done except summon a CSR?

A: Yes. Per a post by HoTron-rex: so just slowly drag him up the ramp you say? no go either. every time you drag a corpse within the clone center it just skips between cloning tubes and doesnt really come to you. the solution however came to me. its rather hard to explain but i'll try. keep doing /drag inside the clone center until the corpse ends up in the tube just to the right of the exit ramp (as you are in the bottom facing the exit...). then, walk up the ramp and just outside the doorway to the clone center so that you are barely out of the building. at this point you'll be 25m away from the body. do /dragagain and because this game has horrible pathfinding code, it'll just warp him through the walls right to your feet where you can then fix up the player outside the confines of the no/wound clone center.

If the person is lucky enough to be ina clone center configured differently, like the Rori Rebel Outpost, just use creative dragging to get them outside, then heal some wounds and rez them.
