Hi all, been lurking for a few weeks now, the info you guys and gals share here is very usefull. Keep it up.

I understand that back in beta Commando's where able to craft there own consumables? I.E. Grenades, Rocket Launchers, ect. ect. Why was this ability removed?

Considering the high costs of these from a weaponsmith it seems to me a better choice to let the commando's and weaponsmiths make these.

Any chance any other Commando's are interested in petitioning for this skill back?

Just an idea.

"Should Commando's Be Able To Craft There Own Consumables?"

No.

I don't have the force of will to explain this one either. Anyone want to take this?

I don't really care either way, since I'd just as soon buy them from a weaponsmith as make them myself. However, there is the fact that on our class description in the game that we are supposed to be able to create and use heavy weapons. And with all the pistoleers and BHs out there, it's not like we'd be stealing much business from the weaponsmiths if we could craft our own weapons.

It would be handy for if you happened to need them in the field, but I would most likely still buy them from a weaponsmith unless I was able to make a much better quality explosive, which in turn wouldnt really be fair to WS class so really I guess it doesnt matter.

I surrendered master arch because I hated crafting, I wouldnt want to have to do it as a commando.

Heres what it takes to make a rocket launcher. 3 different factory runs to make the parts for the proton grenades. Another factory run to make the actual proton grenades.

Then you need to do a factory run of Blaster Power Handlers. Thena factory run of Weapon Scopes. Then a factory run of Projectile feed mechanisms. Finally, after running the factory 7 times, you have the parts to make a rocket launcher, which may or may not crit fail during the final assembly.

I dont know about you, but I dont have the time to make my own rocket launchers. And since at master level commadoes with just a probot pet can do factionmissions that pay 5.5k each + an average or 300 cash on the dead troopers , I would rather get faction points and cash to pay for rocket launchers, and let the poor weaponsmiths waste the time and effort to make them.

Is everyone completely oblivious to game design around here?

The devs only give us one character slot per server to force interactions between crafter and combat classes. If we had more character slots we would do the crafting on our own characters and we would not havea viable player economy.

Nowing this, I am resonably sure you can deduce why commandos won't be crafting their own weapons. If you can't...

It is possible to make your own if you want to. You've enough skill pts to get one line in weaponsmith and a little more.

HPCs and LBCs I find on the Bazaar fairly frequently for 3k. Grenades on the Bazaar rangeup to3k for a bad loot-drop C12. I typically sell C12's and C22'sfor 420 creds and Cryobans at 520 or so. Mines ( XG ) get bought a lot now.

Like I've said before, if you want the best disposable weapon in the game, you're going to pay for it. Don't see SOE changing that.

Should Commandos be able to craft their own consumables? Not entirely.

Should Commandos be able to craft 'reloads' for their consumables? Yes, definitely.

Seriously, this would be the best of both worlds. Let commandos that have novice Artisan skills craft 'reloads' or 'recharges' for their consumable weapons, but have the weapon degrade as it gets 'reloaded' and only allow for limited number of charges in the reloads (say 1/2 - 3/4 of the last 'base number of charges', so it keeps going down as you reload).

If you could reload a consumable, you could make use of the original investment for a longer period of time, but at a penalty of reduced accuracy/damage on the weapon as you continue with.

Set a realistic limit of say 3 reloads, with each reload killing accuracy by 20 - 30%, and each reload reducing damage by say 10 - 25%

You could also let the weaponsmith craft the reloads, with their results being better than the Commandos (so they'd still be preferred as the place to turn for reloads).

As is, it's pretty stupid for anyone to make a rocket launcher. My WS friend has already said it won't happen again for him because it's way too complicated and he can't make the weapons cheaply enough to be competitive in pricing them.

Yes, the problem with consumables is the lack of crafters willing to make them, this does not mean that commandos should be able to craft their own consumables, merely that the devs need to make them easier for crafters to make, so that they are more willing to make them for us.
