I am not a commando but weaponsmith and one of the few on my server that make grenades (only C12/C22). I would like to know more about your opinions to serve you better and which route I should go in my leveling:
1) Do you use grenades? If not, why?
2) Which grenades do you prefer? I can currently only make C22s so I am not sure about the damage on other grenades (those I have seen on bazaar has been bad IMO. My c12s has better damage than most Cryo/Glope)
3) Do you have problems finding someone that sell grenades?
4) How much do you usually pay for grenades?
5) Do you prefer maximize damage or would you prefer extended range? I would really want to increase the range modifier (when using C12s myself I think the problem is that grenades often miss) but experimentation on that seems to be broken. I usually just get 1 or maybe 2 better in range mods. If you would like better range, any preferred range?
6) What is in your opinion a grenade with good stats. Let say a C22? (my C22s is about 1500 max dam with powerup; always sell grenades with powerup; I hope to gee a slicer to improve damage further).
7) Do you ever get your grenades sliced?

1) I gave up my grenade tree because their accuracy, ideal range and ham costs made them pretty useless for everyday use. BTW don't bother making imperial detonators, their delay is horrible, the ones i had made special were 18.4 delay.
2) I was able to get frags, c22 and imperial detonators, the c22's were decent but when missing 3/5 of the ones I threw with field tactics 4 it didn't take me long to toss the crate in my house and forget about them.
3) Like most commandos I befriended a local weaponsmith who was willing to cook some up to experiment, the bulk of weaponcrafters, at least on my server, don't stock them regularly. The more established smiths do tend to toss a couple crates on their vendors, usually to test the market.
4) No idea what a good rate for them would be in their current state, someone who uses more of them could probably give you an idea of their worth.
5) Damage is probably the only way to go atm, accuracy is horribly broken on them so ideal range makes almost no diff atm.
6) Shrug 1500 dmg is nothing next to a good rocket launcher and the accuracy isn't broken on them. If i paid 2k for a 5 charge grenade with 1500 dmg I'd still have been better off paying 20k for a rocket launcher with 30 charges since the grenades usually miss at least 3/5 of the time.
7) Slicing at the current rates would be a waste of cash imho unless you can do it yourself, imagine a 2k grenade, sliced for 35% at 100cr per %. That ends up costing more than one of the charged heavy weaps per shot and you can't hit anthing with it. Throw in a powerup and you're better off just bribing your target to play dead while you finish your mission =)
Always nice to see a Weaponsmith experamenting with heavy weaps. I still have crates of grenades waiting for this crap to get fixed =) Good luck.

I try to use them but am finding that they miss way too much (even with powerups) and 10 meters is too close. I get damaged sometimes too. I have one box in that skill line so farand the xpis climbing very slowly.

Meredragon, I thought the thrown weapon accuracy bonus you commandos get would make a difference. That seems to be the worst problem with grenades IMO.
Yes, I agree that slicing would be a waste of money. But I am thinking of pre-slice them and find some smuggler grinding slicing XP to slice them for free (well, I give them free upgrade kits but that doesn't cost much). If the slice fails is not a big deal since those who buy grenades don't slice them anyway (that is why I asked).
One nice thing with grenades is that they give you pure combat XP which is much harder to get than weapon XP. That is one reason I have been using C12 grenades myself (my combat profession is carbineer)

1. Poor accuracy and effectiveness for the HAM and speed cost. I will willingly choose other weapons over grenades -- I.e. if I want to do radius heat damage, I am going to choose my Rocket Launcher which is AP3 vs my Proton Grenades which are the same bulk damage wise, but hit for much less due to no AP3.
2. Too expensive. I am a Master Commando and it costs my 8-10k for a stack of Proton Grenades. The expense, especially with lower mission payouts is not worth the item.
I would like to see 1K per stack of five, but due to resource/time requirements on Protons at the moment, I realize this will not happen.

I was hoping the accuracy of Field Tactics 4 would help too, was not the case. On my first trial of Imperial detonators i missed 4 out of 5 in the stack of 5 with the whopping delay of 18.4. Thank god it was before the melee nerf, would hate to admit i got killed by a grubber. The slicing idea is a decent one, but don't forget to figure in clamps for 100% success too, if a slicer is grinding exp they can't make them yet and putting up grenades with a failed slice may tick off some of the smuggler/commando combos out there.

I want to keep prices down so IMO better to have some failed/low slices than invreasing price much. I always tell in description of item that it is sliced. Right, Smuggler/Commandos combo didn't think of those

I personally don't use grenades. I think they're a waste of resources and precious HAM(especially with the 2.5x multiplier), and they end up often killing you a lot more effectively than you can kill anything with them. And lastly, the speed and accuracy modifiers are completely useless. Regarding accuracy, I've actually had some interesting throws with grenades at an enemy base. Now, bases are stationary, mind you, and you can't miss them, right? Wrong.I actually missed a stationary enemy base with a grenade throw. If that doesn't spell "broken", I don't know what does.
