Thread: HPBC the target is out of range?!?

A friend asked last nite if I had tried a Heavy Particle Beam Cannon, and if so, was I hitting anything with it. I've tried it previously, but of course, its a consumable weapon, and I don't like to waste expensive shots if it's not necessary.

I did have one that was very low damage (apparently one that my WS friend made that was underpowered for some reason) and I pulled it out to give it a try. I lined up a shot from 48m (supposed best range for the weapon) and fired it, only to be told 'your shot missed' followed up with 'the target is out of range'

I moved to 16m and tried again, same results.

Is anyone hitting with the weapon, and if so, what is the range?

I only have the first box of Heavy Weapon support, and I'd assume I would miss most of the time, but why should the 'target be out of range'?

Thanks in advance.

First, I have not seen the "target out of range" problem recently and assume it is a bug, but I can check later today.

Second, I personally love the HPBC. Being at HW4, I have the same mods on HPBC as master and use it alot when I am not working on other skills. As far as missing, I would say I hit 2/3 of the time. If I am careful and use it at exactly 48m while the target is stationary, probably around 85% hits. Target moving at approx 48m, around 30% hits. Target charging me, 10% hits. HPBC and grenades are the 2 consumables that I currently buy in crates. I generally use them on high ham or extremely dangerous targets when I know I can get a good 1 or 2 shots from 48m before they charge. Make sure you examine your target first though, you don't want to waste a good hit on a 90% resist mob.

I've used it quite a bit myself. I've noticed, though that the mob will at least 50% of the time evade, dodge, or counterattack when hit with damage over 2.5k thus negating the hit. There seems to be some sort of flag or fudge factor for heavy damage.
