Thread: My thoughts on dabbling

I sit here and see so much anti dabbling propaganda on these forums and i am forced to put my 2 cents in

first and foremost i am 1 box away from master commando and fully intend that i will remain a master commando for the entire game - i believe it is the only way to be.

I dont think there is much wrong with the art of dabbling due to these reasons:

1. There are many of us who dabble ourselves - i dont think there is nothing wrong with this - wether its novice pistoleer to increase the effectiveness of our bleeds while using our bread and butter LP, or Novice smuggler to help our LP as well, be it CH for a tank, scouting for exp or hunting (which both helps on the move and skinning for cash - crafters love us, TKA for its advantages, NOVICE MEDIC - cmon - were all guilty there. and many more combos - we are simply finding more efficient ways to increase our destructive nature - we like killing things - for cash, enjoyment, or experience.

2. it should almost be a compliment to us that other peeps want to be a part of the commando experience - solely because we know how to do but one thing - kill many different ways. We should also look at this from another angle - this dabbling from our adversaries and allies makes the game more competitive and must make us think more tactically and strategically. In the end - if you think about it - it is actually making us better commandos.

3. everyone is very anti dabbling - yet we wish our fellow commandos well when taking the path to Jedi - i think it all comes down to respecting our different views and techniques to achieve a better level of combat effectiveness. Take Ivoni for instance - never spoken a word to him/her - but is defintiely, without a doubt why i chose the commando profession - and am sorry to see him/her go - but wish her the best and hope she applies her road to jedi to keeping a skillful mind in all aspects - as the commando field gave her a great base. what Ivoni did which inspired me was that she applied her knowledge of commando into leading other commandos down a good path - cant thank you enough.

So - as i step off my pedastool - I must also say that many of you are right in my opinion that a master Commando should have more bonuses than that of a dabbler - and i can see your point clearly - hopefully that will be fixed - but as for now - lets drive on with the mission and take more of an ivoni approach to the commando profession.

I just feel this anti dabbling is borderline narrow mindedness - which in my opinion is going to lead you in the end into a not as combat effective commando - you may find yourself in the med center more than on the battlefield - how are you gonna help your fellow guildies that way? Food for thought huh. But by all means - we all have our own point of views and i respect them as well - now youve heard mine. Thanks for reading this exhaustively long post hehe

Just ignore the anti-dabbler's....I'm heading towards Master Commando myself...and I'll say it...anyone against dabblers is full of it and themselves...

Ifyou have only Master Marksman, Master Unarmed and Master Commando and/or some other Mastered Profession with no skill points used anywhere else then your not a dabbler...if you've used ANY of those remaining skill points in anywhere else that you haven't mastered, then you are a DABBLER...not a Commando Dabbler per say, but a Medic Dabbler, or a Pistoleer Dabbler,a Smuggler Dabbler,a CH Dabbler, or whatever...People dabble in our profession just like WE ALL dabble in other professions...in most cases they dabble in our profession for Offensive capabilities where we dabble in theirs for mostly Defensive (or enhancements to our offensive)...So 90% of the time, anyone complaining about Dabblers is just as guilty as those they bad mouth...that's why I just ignore them...And in all honestly, from what I've seen and heard...the anti-dabblers are the minority here...

These are pretty much my thoughts exactly. The reason I find anti dabbler posts so hard to ignore is that they very much effect my enjoyment of these forums by skewing my perceptions of the community. Its only one of the gripes people seem to focus on but, that's just about the ONLY thing that gets posted anymore. Complaints and whines and moans...... There has got to be something good in the game somewhere.

I suppose deedaa read my post in that flamethrower dabbler thread. I just re-read it and WOW it rambles on.

The big thing I dont get is why people are so vicious about it when, as you said, everyone is just as guilty of doing it. The only differences are what profession the dabbling is done in. In my case I didnt originally plan on mastering ANY elite prof. That may be changing with the new patch but I will still be a dabbler to somebody. I also have to deal with being called "flavor of the month" a lot of the time. Usually it just makes me smile. Commando /CH abound in game. So what. I was technically a Com/CH even back before weapons worked right. Back then, I had more rifle skills than I did commando skills and figured I would be dropping CH to go on with how I thought my char would be. Well I had no idea how attached I would get to those damned cats. Didnt even have maulers till i started krayt hunting. rifle had to go and I settled on a different template. One that works, or at least did work up until the coming patch. I dread its coming. It's going to give me one hell of an identity crises.

Everytime anyone moans about dabblers I want eveyone to raise their hand who holds ONLY Nov Medic for their character for all the insane benefits it gives. We can just talk about that one thing..... we will ignore TKA, Pistol or whatever else is acceptable to the Commando community as a whole.
