AOE? non-AOE? busted AOE? Here ismy experience with the Proton Rifle I own:


I hit "target Mob" for 1000 Damage

I hit"Mob" for 1 Damage


Altho it is only 1 damage, it is AOE and it does draw aggro. I know that our AOE is broke so I assumed that this was a nasty bug and added it to the stack and tried to work around it.Well, I run across this threadin the Rifleman forum andthier correspondent stated that the proton rifle is the only non-AOE weapon we (commandos) have.

Altho his answer might be "correct", for my experience it isn't 100% true


SOOO... is my rifle bugged? Are all proton rifles bugged? Is the rifleman correspondent giving the answer big-brother has OK'ed or is he telling the truth? Feel free to answer or ask any other questions because I may have a dose of the buyers remorse and just may need a hug!

Old Proton Rifles are bugged--anything pre-pub 19 I think. They were broken and only went 'click,click' when fired. Now they do 1pt AOE, whereas newly looted ones have no AOE.

sorry 100% accuracy is hard to keep with so many systems ^_- but I do know the proton rifle. (Commando for the win. ) Have been a commando for almost 2 years (my main is no longer T_T but 2 alts are)

Well here's what I've noticed. Now that I've got a few proton rifles actually (And hey. Got them all dirt cheap too)


Far as I can tell very much so. All pre patch protons do 6m AOE


Post Patch Protons do NOT do AOE. But this seems to me like something in them got borked. because if you then use an AOE special. All the other targets hit, are only hit for 1 point of damage. As if it were regular commando AOE. So it seems to me that they are NOT truely non aoe weapons. Just ones that are borked. intentionally or not. As all the proton rifles still state themselves as having a 6m blast radius.

AHHH, it all makes so much sence now. So there is now way to tell if you have the "busted" version or not?

Newly crafted Heavy Partical Beam Cannon's seem to now also not properly create a 6m radius or the cone effect they are supposed to have.


Also.


Newly crafted Rocket Launchers, and newly looted "The Void's"do nothave their 6m radius.

I (have to) like the AOE on my proton. Partly because I have it ADK'ed the moment I got my hands on it, before pub 19 that is and I'm just to stubborn to buy me a new one (if you fix some why not all, eh devs?). Where the AOE is a pain in PvE the more I'm loving it in PvP - knockdown works nice with a 6m radius also root/snare...

Thats a result of the generic AoE encoding in ALL heavy weapons...Bear with me as it gets a bit confusing...


Because the AoE, if it were to work correctly on the weapons designed to have AoE (ex - flamethrower), they would do 100 percentmain / 40 percent splash damage. But the innate AoE is bugged, doing 100 percent main /0-1 point (plus elemental) splash damage. But, we cant get a confirmation on it....


Unfortunately, even when using a DEDICATED 100 percent main / 100 percent splash damage special (Fanshot, for example), the heavyweapons (whether AoE or not) only do 100 percent main / 0-1 point damage (plus elemental) - the intent, I believe is to do 100/40. But our AoE is busted. Which busts other AoE specials.


We cant get a confirmation from a Dev to say one of the following:


1)Dedicated 100/100 specials like fan shot should do 100/100 with aninnate AoE commando weapon


2) Dedicated 100/100 specials like fan shot should do 100/40 damage with aninnate AoE commando weapon, DESPITE the AoE being 100/100 with EVERY other weapon in thegame.


3) AoE weapons, like the flamer SHOULD do 100/100 damage with dedicated 100/100 AoE specials.


4)That even nonAoE weapons like theproton rifle, because they are heavy weapons, will ONLY do 100/40 damage even with a dedicated 100/100 AoE special. This is because (insert reasons here- none of which make sense, because our weapons do NOT power up other specials - regardless of what they say)



There is absolutely NO reason to use my 108 SAC / 1048 flamer with fanshot, EVEN if AoE worked with fanshot to do 100 main / 40 splash damage when I can pull out my 65 SAC / 950ish (un-pup'd) FWG5 and do 100 main / 100 splash to my targets, when the speed on my flamer cooldowns are MORE than the cooldown on my FWG5 to spam fanshot...Even IF the flamer did 100/100 with fanshot, it would STILL be counterproductive to use it INSTEAD of my FWG5. Its slower, and has nearly TWICE the SAC, despite only having 100 or so more damage.



Our innate AoE just needs to be REMOVED, and our old specials put back in. Case closed, everything fixed in one easy pass.
