Ok, so I started a 14-day trial account and saw that there was a technological based powerset in the blaster archetype, assault rifle and devices. For those not knowing, archetype is if you're going to be nuker, healer, tanker, mezzer or such. Powerset is the line of "abilities" you gain when leveling up.
While looking through the descriptions of them all I saw that this sounded more commando then what we are.
Here's a rundown of attacks and abilities with a short description by order of aquering:
Assault Rifle powerset
Burst: 5-shot burst at long range, can lower defense. moderate damage.
Slug: Long range single target attack with knockback. high damage.
Buckshot: Close range cone AoE with knockback. moderate damage.
M30 Grenade: Longe range grenade attachment, AoE knockback. moderate damage.
Beanbag: Non-leathel beanbag that can disorient a target. minor damage.
Sniper Rifle: Very long range single target attack that can knockback, has an interuptable warmup. extreme damage.
Flamethrower: Medium range cone AoE which will set foes on fire. extreme damage.
Ignite: Set an area ablaze burning any foes passing through it. moderate damage.
Full Auto: Narrow cone AoE with critical hit chance. superior damage.
Devices powerset
Web Grenade: Single target root. no damage.
Caltrops: Location AoE snare. moderate damage.
Taser: Melee ranger disorient attack. minor damage.
Targeting Drone: Toggleable accuracy buff.
Smoke Grenade: Accuracy and vision AoE debuff. no damage.
Cloaking Device: Stealth coupled with defense buff.
Trip Mine: Placeable proximity mine, fragile but detonates on destruction. superior damage.
Time Bomb: Placeable with 15 sec timer, knockback. extreme damage.
Auto Turret: Placeable stationery turret with it's own tracking system. moderate damage.
One can see that the main weapon is the assault rifle with different attachments, namely grenade, sniper and flamethrower. Yes the flame attacks are high level but they are more a utility compared to our PFT.
What do the rest of you think?

The little I've is fun but that's more to the facts that it's new to me. From what I've heard it get's kinda repetetive but the character design is realy fun.
I've tried a few other builds as well but I'm having most fun with this one. If I could only find out what makes my comp completly deadlock I would have much more fun.
If anyone wants to join me I'm on the Union server, name...... something I don't remember right now. I have to write it down next time I log in.
You can get a trial key from this swedish page, http://kund.nyamedier.se/mdf/pcg/cohtrial/ (can't bother to make a clicky). I don't know of any english pages that gives out trial keys.
Edit: Ok, managed to get on long enough, name is Enura Escala.

I messed with that trial thing, and it was even more boring than SWG. Sure, their commandos might have more stuff, but we still have our flamethrowers and proton grenades with our armor......yeah....that's all I really need.

Yeah. I decided to give it a whirl too. The specials are nice etc. Playability is much the same really when it comes to combat. Dont much care for the all in one rifle thing. Personally I like my weapons seperate.
Definately cant knock the player customization though. Damn.... I thought SWG had a fairly big range of options. I dont think I've seen a single toon in CoH yet that'sremotely the same.
